I Black Sabbath sono uno dei primi gruppi heavy metal. Il gruppo nasce a Birmingham nel 1964. La formazione "storica" è costituita da Ozzy Osbourne (voce), Tony Iommi (chitarra), Geezer Butler (basso) e Bill Ward (batteria), ma ci furono numerosi cambi nella formazione della band e Iommi rimase l'unico componente fisso.
I Black Sabbath hanno contribuito molto allo sviluppo dell'Heavy Metal e, in seguito, del Doom Metal.
