The medieval lira is a string instrument, whose strings are normally a fan, not fingered, but plucked with fingers and tightened parallell to the armonical plan, to wich they transmit vibrations, thanks to a "ponticello". The number of strings is generally six, corresponding to the notes of the "exachord".
