Marc
Urselli-Schärer was born and raised in Switzerland. Later he moved
to Italy. He studied classical and jazz piano with internationally acclaimed concert pianists Francesco Castronuovo and later specialized in electronic music, sound synthesis, MIDI programming & sequencing and other computer / keyboards / sampler related topics. He also studied and graduated in "Electronics & Telecommunications" with focus on "Frequency Studies and Electronics" at the I.T.I.S. Institute in Italy. While studying, playing in bands, writing music and writing about music for international publications, he begun to develop his interest in recording techniques and sound knowledge. He studied microphone positioning techniques, recording techniques, analog and digital domains, general sound knowledge, mixing techniques and more... Although his main focus and interest was and is studio recording, in the same period he started working as a freelance live sound engineer at shows and events varying in type, size, relevance and exposure (from the small in-house club to the big outdoors stadium). He has been FOH engineer for over 100 concerts. After years of experimentation, live sound, home-recording, project studio developments and live sound he started an internship at one of Southern Italy's biggest and most active recording studios (Purerock Studios, previously Nanni's Studio) and later started working as a full-time freelance engineer. In 1996 he opened his own commercial recording studio in Italy (Maelstrom Studio) and quickly developed a roster of clients spanning musically and geographically in a vast area. His first real studio venture was built around a professional Italian vintage analog board from the mid 70es called Argentini EP6500 (72 inputs, 32 faders, add-on automation and an exclusive video-based real-time plasma-emulating vu-metering / monitoring system...). He still owns that little 7 feet beauty and has now decided to sell it. He started to travel intensively, visiting the United States and other European countries. He begun adding international artists to his roster of satisfied clients and continued working for a number of bands, artists and studios from all over the world. He has been working with many Grammy Award winning producers, engineers and artists as mixer, recording engineer, Pro Tools editing engineer and live sound engineer. He started offering his knwledge and services to some of the finest and most acclaimed musicians and producers in the world (please click here for a list). More equipment quickly added to the list of gear that he used for his productions (Neve, Studer, Sony, DigiDesign, Harrison, Focusrite etc...).
His knowledge of recording techniques and tools includes analog machines as well as digital platforms. In particular, after attending seminaries and workshops, and after using it for several years on a daily basis, he developed an in-depth knowledge of the DigiDesign Pro Tools environment. Today Marc Urselli-Schaerer regularly visits New York City and other musically-active cities in the world to offer his services as live sound engineer, studio engineer (recording engineer, editing engineer and mixer) and music producer. To view a list of credits and people he worked with please click here. One of his favourite studios in NYC is his friend Lou Holtzman's and Fran Cathcart's East Side Sound (www.eastsidesound.com). Furthermore, in his all-musical life he has also been member and promotion manager of a recording label (DUNE records) and of DigiMusic.net (www.digimusic.net), a multi-national on-line streaming video & music broadcasting company. He's also founding member, director and publisher for a worldwide electronic music magazine and online publication / webportal called Chain D.L.K. (www.chaindlk.com) and likes doing websites. As a website designer and programmer he formed a company called FeatherFactory.org (www.featherfactory.org) with an international staff. But producing, recording and mixing music is always at top of this list... Seeking perfection, harmony and balance... |
