Our main objective is to learn designing our first-ever “hands-on”
project. Anyway, technical objectives we want to achieve are:

To demonstrate the feasibility of a
MEMS-based INS
·
To estimate errors derived by using
COTS components
·
To compare results with more precise
navigation system (GPS) provided by Bexus
·
To investigate the hypothetical use as
a possible backup in case of main navigation system unavailability
Moreover, through exhaustive
post-processing, we want to perform the following analysis:

Comparison between on-board data
(computed with limited resources) and exhaustive on ground processing
·
Test of the solution validity with
re-alignment (from “official” data performed at various times and
mission phases)
·
Behavior of the error equation for the
INS obtained considering the “official data” as the true solution and
linearizing around.
·
Check of the sensors’ errors and
calibration
