LIFEND: "Shattering: Reality“ MCD 2003

Lifend was formed in 1999 under the original moniker of 'My Dark Side'. The band started out by playing covers before composing their own material and embarking on some live experiences. The band changed name to Lifend and in April 2001 recorded their first demo 'Entwined Emotions'. March 2003 saw the light of Lifend's second release 'Shattering Reality'. This mini CD features 3 interesting tracks, which style range from death, progressive, doom, gothic and classical heavy metal. The production is a bit chaotic, and thus many times certain parts are drowned in the mix. What I like within this band is the courage to experiment and write original songs. I really like those unexpected calm breaks with accordion and acoustic insertions. What I really don't like within this band is the female vocals...they are very weak and many times annoying. They really sound out of tune with many parts. Another thing which the band must work on is the drum machine. It sounds too synthetic, and although in many parts it fits ok, other parts seem not quite well. Well this band has everything to become a quality band, lets hope it can improve and polish its weaknesses. Good effort though and thumbs up for the interesting experiments.
