A
little history: In 1976 an
Irish girl, Fiona, convinced her Roman boyfriend, now husband,
to
open an authentic Irish pub in Rome. It was an extravagant idea for
the time.
In the early 1970's, there were no pubs of any kind in
Rome, few people here knew what they were.
Indeed, there were
practically no ethnic restaurants either: the only food served in
Rome was Italian.
The Irish girl was lucky – the 1970's was
the beginning of the boom in beer drinking in Italy
and the pub
she co-founded has now become one of the landmarks of the Eternal
City.
The
evening will be with students from Trinity College in Rome.
