How to do the interview with the students from Trinity College

  1. You can do the interview alone or with a partner. In the second case, one of you will ask the questions and the other will hold the audio or video recorder (or cell phone that records) and will observe the body language of all parties.

  2. Besides the 5 questions that you take from my questionnaire (below), you – or you and your partner – will invent 5 other questions on the same theme. Write them on a piece of paper but when you speak, look your interviewee in the eyes (don't read from the piece of paper).

  3. After your interview Monday evening in the pub, you have 3 days to write your report. If you work with a partner, both you and your partner will write separate reports. Many of things both of you say will be identical, but some will differ because you noticed different things, or you interpreted your interviewees' answers in a different way.

  4. Send your reports and the audio file in an email to: patrick@boylan.it. I will evaluate it and give my marks to your teacher, prof. Lopriore. Your work will exonerate you from the Internet research task that other students will have to do later this year.

QUESTIONS

Click below for 12 questions about your interviewees relationship with his/her family.
QUESTIONNAIRE ON THE FAMILY

Choose 5 out of the 12 questions, then invent 5 more on your own.
The 10 questions you choose should help you decide if “the family”
and family relationships are the same for you and for your interviewee.

Does “the family” have the same value for him/her, as an upper class East Coast American,
that is has for you as a middle-class, Southern-Central Italian?

Some people say that Italians have a much stronger attachment to their family:
Other people say that “
tutto il mondo è paese” and the family is equally important in all cultures.

Ask questions to decide who is right and then write a report on what you learned.
Your report should be one full page if you write it on a computer, or two pages if you write by hand.
(But please use a computer if possible, it makes it easier for me to read!)
