Val Borbera

1 - Descent from mount Legną to Cabella Ligure

Updating: 9/2001
Description. From the peak of the mt Legną we go down the steep but brief ridge in west direction (trail sign: yellow X) and we arrive to a saddle.
We go up a summit from where a steep descent begins on path. The descent finishes to a pass (km 1,1). We continue entering the enclosure of the livestock, we reach a second pass and we enter the wood.
The descent it almost continues in plain for a long trct, then it becomes steep and it finishes in proximity of an evident grassy back (km 3,1). Here the signalled path goes to the left, instead we go to the right climb on the grassy back.
We find a weak footsteps that we follow in steep descent to the borders of the wood. The path finishes on an dirt road (km 4). Going to the right we would reach Montaldo; we go to the left instead.
After some windings we notice to the left a tub of the water and a path (km 4,5).
Two possibilities:
  1. to continue on the road that connects with another, to the intersection to turn to the left and to reach a Chapel.
  2. to take the path, initially difficult. More before it is revealed to be still partially a paved mule-track. At the end we arrive on a road near a the Chapel (km 5,9).
From the Chapel we continue in direction of the near country.
The road coasts along the houses and arrives to an intersection (km 6,3). We go down to the right and we arrive in the country.
Here it begins the asphalt road and the descent it continues steep toward the bottom of the valley. We get over a bridge and we cross the provincial road of Capanne Carrega and then that of Capanne of Cosola (km 11,5).
Continuing in descent we quickly reach Cabella (km 14,8).
Gradient: 1200 ms.
On saddle:  99%
Observations:   Unsuitable to the slope.

2 - Capanne of Cosola/Capanne of Carrega

Updating:  9/2001
Description:
From the pass we go down on the oriental slope for few meters and we turn to the right in the road for Bogli.
Later around 700 meters we leave the road to climb to the right on an dirt road.
Gone out of the wood we get over a steep slope to which follows a descent to a pass.
A steep slope finishes in peak to the Cavalmurone (km 2,4).
We go down a steep tract and we rise reaching the shoulder of the Legną mountain (km 2,9). The peak is to the right to few meters.
A steep descent brings us to the Pass of the Legną. At the end of the descent we cross a grove, then we enter the wood (km 3,9).
Here two possibilities there are:
  1. We continue on the road that goes down to the right of the ridge. Later around 800 meters the road becomes steep and goes to the right.
We rise to the left for a ruined mule-track
. 300 non cycle meters lead us to the road near the ridge.
  2. (advisable) We leave the road to climb to the left on the ridge. Here it there is the signalled path.
We go down in the wood, then we rise a steep tract. We go out in the lawns on road.
The length of the two runs is the same.
We follow the road, neglecting the shortcuts of the path coming to get over the ridge. The road continues on the oriental slope then it returns on the ridge.
We reach the base of the Carmo mountain (km 6,8). The road goes to the right avoiding the peak (wanting to climb in peak it is necessary to get over around 200 non cycle meters).
We arrive to the wood on the southern slope of the Carmo where we turn to the right following the road that goes down among the beech trees. Without problems we reach the asphalt in place Capanne of Carrega (km 9,5).
300 ms to the left the path departs for the Antola mountain.
Gradient: in slope 370 ms; in descent 500 ms.
On saddle:  87 %
Observations: Practicable also in contrary sense, but perhaps still less cycle.

3 - Loop of Sisola

Updating: 4/2002
Description:
We cross the houses of Sisola going toward Mongiardino, but we turn to the left before the bridge in direction of Rovello.
Following the asphalt road we reach Rovello Inferiore, then Rovello Superiore. (km 3,5) where the asphalt road finishes.
We cross the few houses and find a fork where we go down to the right. We meet numerous roads to the right and to the left but we stay on the main road that it leaves the lawns and it get overs some small fords (km 4,2).
In slope we continue as far as cross the most greater road, that rises from Vergagni, in correspondence of a tabernacle (km 5,3).
We turn to the left and we face the slope. The first 500 meters are made difficult by the inclination and by the a little solid ground, then the situation improves and we continues without too many problems up to the term of the slope.
In correspondence of the level tract we meet the path that arrives from the mount Bossola (varying 3.1 ; km 7,2).
We Continue to reach the beginning of the steep descent that quickly brings us to cross the asphalt road that rises from Mongiardino (km 9,8). We turn to the left and climb.
In correspondence of the last curve to the left (km 10,4), before the near houses of Prato, we leave the asphalt road and we take to the right the dirt one. We turn then to the left to the fork.
We face the slope, to binding tracts, but with excellent surface always.
We earn height with some windings and we reach the pass (km 12,4). We leave the road and we take to the right the path that it meets, after 200 ms, in a forest road of recent construction. In alternative we can directly take this road that begins 100 meters before the pass.
We follow the forest road that advances with numerous slopes and descents maintaining itself always on the ridge.
After a descent we make a lot of attention because we have to leave the road and to turn to the right in a few evident path (km 15,6; trail sign FIE: yellow rhomb; also trail sign red/white). The trail signs connect the pass of S. Fermo (in front of us) with the Valico of the Salata (to our right) that we have to reach.
We turn to the right and we go down in common with the itinerary 12 of the valley Scrivia. The path remains on the ridge, then it goes down definite and ruined to a meadow pass (km 17,4). To the right a road goes down and immediately after another one.
We neglect its and we continue up to take the path that goes down to the Passo di Salata (km 17,8).
We cross the road and climb the road of forehead reaching the small church. Intersection of roads. We take the road that goes to slope, with the surface in concrete (equestrian indications for Borassi).
The road rises, assumes then a course to up-and-down. A descent brings us on the lawns (km 21) where an intersection is.
We turn to the left in plain, then in slope. We continue alternating slopes and descents until the road it finishes meeting in another one(km 23,3).
We turn to the right and we go down in sight of the houses of Camere Vecchie. Still one short climb then we coast along the country without entering it. To the fork we go straight on and we go down in the lawns until we reach the houses of Borassi (km 25).
Here we find the asphalt road and we follow it in descent up to the bottom of the valley. Crossed the bridge we are to Sisola (km 28,4).
Gradient: in slope 1250 ms; in descent 1250 ms.
On saddle: 98%
Observations: perfectly practicable also in contrary sense. In such case it is strongly advisable the variation 3.1.
Varying 3.1 (cross of mount Bossola):
Crossing the main itinerary contrarily we arrive at the end of the new forest road (km 0). We turn to the right and rise to the pass of the mount Bossola (km 0,1).
We leave the road climbing the path that rises to the left, in the lawn. The path follows the line of maximum inclination and is not cycle for about fifty meters. Then it continues on the ridge with almost level course and it arrives in peak (km 0,4).
From the peak we go down following the only one well marked path that enters the wood. We go out of the wood to find us on a meadow ridge. The descent continues until to an evident saddle (km 1,2). Let's neglect the mule-track that it goes down to the right and we go on the path that continues to the left slope. The trace its are very weak, absorbed in the grass. On the trees there are countersigns constituted by red and white adhesive ribbon: let's follow them trying not to lose height. We arrive (km 1,7) to a point where the path turns to the right decidedly and enters the wood. The following layout is lacking of references, we follow the white-red trail signs maintaining us on the principal layout. After 300 meters we turn to the left (trail sign) to an intersection; we get over some fallen tree and we go out on the wide dirt road (km 2,2) of the main itinerary.
Here we can:
1. turn to the right and go down to Vergagni or to Rovello;
2. turn to the left going down to Mongiardino;
3. (entirely unadvisable) turn to the left and, after 200 meters, to leave the road to follow the steep one and covered with brushes path that goes down to houses Mandirola in around 1 km.
