Revolting to Police State. Not a civic you'll see often in BC times with a non-spiritual civ, huh? I want to set up a huge campaign, though. The engineer, great library, and economic trait will help me out of the tech hole later. I ramp up the military production and declare in 175 BC, with a stack of 7 swordsmen, who approach the city of Djennè. It will be very hard, as we're facing the Malinese UU, but we must do it. Heck, Djennè is the Confucian holy city! And has stone, too. I attack, lose the first sword at 18% odds, win the next two battles (the other defender was a spear) and take the city.
Four of the swords proceed to clean up that junk city in the north, then it will be time to aim for Mali's core.
Wow, these swords are better than I thought in this war. Despite being Mali's UU, actually the skirmisher has worse odds when defending a city against a CR1 sword! I lost only one sword to kill two Skirmishers in Niani. Things will get worse in some time, but I haven't used my full potential yet In the meanwhile, Hinduism has spread to Nottingham, and is helping the city immensely at the border. In fact, I stole one pig resource from Saladin thanks to that one single culture point! After grabbing construction, which will be most useful in the early wars, I beeline to literature, for the GL, and maybe the hanging gardens too. I raze Walata (forgot the pic), but then get greedy and try to kill an axe protecting an iron source. Two swords get slaughtered One lone wounded CR3 sword is killed by an axe, more . While the offensive stalls at the gates of Timbuktu, I rush the Parthenon and start the HG. I make peace with Mansa, too. While developing the economy, I found Hastings too. It's north of the capital, on the coast. A nice commerce city, not more. I complete the HG, and prepare for the Great Library. My second great person is an engineer too! I'll use it for the GL, when the library is finished. Military is ramping up again, to attack Mansa or Saladin.
I decide for Saladin, since the borders there are becoming really tight. I declare in 575 AD, and approach the city of Medina. My stack consists of 5 swords and one catapult. The defender only has two archers and a spear, but walls are in place. Nevertheless, the city is taken (one sword lost), and razed.
The war continues. Baghdad is razed, too. Then, while sieging Najran, I have a run of bad luck, losing several units at high odds. The city is destroyed, however . I'm going to replace all those cities with my own. Saladin, your dotmap SUCKS!
In 965 AD, the English army is ready to attack Mecca, for the last battle of this war. The defences are already down, one cat suicides, and then the main attack starts. At the end of the first wave, four defenders and five attackers survive. The second wave starts well: one cat wins a 32% odds fight! The next units have the advantage over the heavily damaged Arabian defenders, and despite the inferior number, we take the city! Only the medic was left to attack in the last turn (it had already attacked in the first wave!). The city is nice, as it has the sistine, a wonder which I always miss.
Peace is made with Saladin for Currency. Now we have to recover from the technological disadvantage.
