WATERCOLORS,
of
I thought I would reproduce the images of these
watercolors, as well as I did those that I painted on the road a few years ago,
in
pages, under the title Notes on the road.
It was my Aunt who suggested to me, recently, to scan
onto the computer these also, which I drew mostly a short time after
I came back from my travels, and that she saw hanging
on the walls of my place, appreciating them more than I expected.
They basically represent landscapes, natural places
most of all in the
certainly less known and particular than those which I
depicted on the road. They were environments that attracted or appeal-
ed to me at the moment, perhaps while I was just
driving by, without me even thinking so much about the reason.
I had never taken these drawings into particular
consideration, because to me they had basically been exercises, or secondary
sketches anyhow, of little relevance. Now I realize
that I was wrong about this.
The study and the observation of the things about
building and architecture, that had been my intention to pursue, must be
based upon and make reference to nature, its parts and
elements, constantly and continually, in order to learn and take inspira-
tion from it, and elaborate creations that are
original and true.
In a sense, it is as if to realize that outside of
men's buildings there exists and has always existed the ample and universal
archi-
tecture of the creation and nature, with its laws and
harmonies, from which to always draw teachings. In nature we find our-
selves immersed, it is necessary that we try and be a
part of it.
It means to research the sources of wisdom, not only
looking to the concrete and measurable results and effects of the creati-
ons of the past, but attempting to feel the spirit
that inspired and animated them in the first place.
In this sense I believe that the observation of any
natural event -- such as a wave in the sea, the shape of a shell, the flow of a
river, the rippling of a hill relief or a mountain,
the constitution of a horse or an insect, the conformation of a lily of the
field, of
a leaf – is an incomparable source of teaching and
inspiration.
So here I post a few simple watercolors, of the kind I
don't produce very often, but for which I feel a keen interest and affect-
ion. I hope I will be able to see and grasp the
opportunity to paint some more.
