Notes on the road
In 1998 I traveled for about 8 months,
approximately, in but that is what I basically did in that
year. I wanted to go and visit the architectures and works of art that I had
seen in pictures and had read about in books.
I started out touring a few cities of northern I was going after the works of the
spirit, and it was enlight-ening. I learned so much about art and
architecture, and enjoyed it very much. Lately I’ve wondered if in the
time of internet and cyberspace it still
makes sense to approach architecture in this manner. To me it did, and it
still does. Please, don’t get me wrong on
this: I’m honestly feeling enthusiastic about computers and
internet, however ignorant I still might be about these
things, and I would so |
much like to get to know more, but for
me personally, at that time, that was right. The following watercolors are a partial
report of the second half of that journey. It is
partial because I would also do quite a bit of sketching on notepads, all
along, which isn’t here; and it only covers part of the journey because
I just wasn’t doing watercolors on the first half of it, but only
sketching. Here is a list of cities or places where
I was, in tercolor paintings that I did of
interesting places, works of art, architectures or monuments. Of
course, I might have missed lots of things that are great and beautiful. |
