6 novembre - Partenza col botto per la colonna sonora di 8 MILE in USA: Eminem-Heavy '8 Mile' Soundtrack Soars To No. 1 - The Shady/Interscope soundtrack to "8 Mile" debuts at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums tally, on sales of 702,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The set, the companion piece to the Eminem-starring film of the same name, wasn't expected to perform as well as "The Eminem Show," which sold 1.2 million units in its first full week of release earlier this year. But it has already spawned a No. 1 Hot 100 single for Eminem with "Lose Yourself." In a week of major releases, "8 Mile" is one of five albums to debut inside the top-10. At No. 2 with 330,000 units is Christina Aguilera's "Stripped" (RCA), and right behind at No. 3 is Interscope's long-awaited self-titled Nirvana hits set. Aguilera, now sporting an even more ribald look and some newfound songwriting abilities, previously reached No. 1 with her 1999 self-titled debut. "Nirvana," containing the No. 1 rock airplay single "You Know You're Right," marks the band's first appearance at the top of The Billboard 200 since live album "From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah" landed at No. 1 in 1996.

8 novembre - Will Eminem's ''8 Mile'' break box office records? The rapper may equal J. Lo with a No. 1 movie and album in the same week, but he won't likely earn the biggest R-rated opening ever. 'MILE' MARKER Can Marshall Mathers break records the way Slim does? Will Enimem beat out all his box office competition by a mile this weekend? Try eight miles. The rap star's first major film project, ''8 Mile,'' which hits theaters just days after its soundtrack topped the Billboard album chart, could make him the first performer to claim the No. 1 movie and music slots since Jennifer Lopez achieved that feat last year. Anticipation for ''8 Mile,'' in which Eminem plays an aspiring rapper with a troubled home life, is through the roof among both men and women. And advance critical response has been mostly strong. So how big will the R-rated ''8 Mile'' be? The record for an R-rated opening is held by last year's ''Hannibal,'' which grossed a mammoth $58 million. Don't expect that figure to be broken, but ''8 Mile'' could kick off with as much as $40 million. That will certainly push last week's top film, ''The Santa Clause 2,'' to second place. The Tim Allen sequel stands to slip 30 percent from its $29 million debut to about $20 million. Meanwhile, the horror thriller ''The Ring'' has been exhibiting week-to-week drops that would make ''My Big Fat Greek Wedding'' jealous. The Naomi Watts film could fall just 20 percent to $14 million and third place. Two comedies should round out the top five. Last week's disappointing debut ''I Spy,'' starring Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson, stands to drop 45 percent to about $7 million, while ''Jackass the Movie'' will likely plummet 50 percent to $6 million. Still, they should each outgross the week's other national release, the Rebecca Romijn-Stamos thriller ''Femme Fatale,'' which has amassed some of the worst reviews of the year. This femme fatale is going to be DOA.

Eminem proved to be a powerhouse at the box office with his urban drama 8 Mile which generated the best opening day ever for an R rated film with a Friday haul of $20.9M beating out Hannibal's $19M from February 2001. The phenomenal debut also ranks as the second biggest opening day ever in the month of November trailing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which bowed to a towering $32.3M last year on its way to a record-breaking $90.3M weekend. However, by playing in just 2,471 theaters, 8 Mile's per-theater average of $8,450 nearly matched the $8,805 of Harry Potter on its opening day. The critically acclaimed Eminem pic also carried a more restrictive rating compared to the boy wizard's PG. Since 8 Mile appeals to a core following of fans of the best-selling rapper, and that its target audience consists of a large number of teens and young adults, the Curtis Hanson film is expected to see a large share of its weekend business on Friday. For the three-day session, 8 Mile may find itself with a staggering $54-59M.

Eminem's movie debut has had considerable advance buzz, and speculation is high about its prospects of being one of the box office winners in the Fall season. So the news that 8 Mile is being released in 2,471 theaters this weekend comes as a little bit of a surprise. It's almost certainly because Universal thinks they'll add to the appeal of the movie by holding it back a little in the first week and then steadily expanding it, at least through Thanksgiving. If the movie is good enough, it's probably a shrewd move - witness the growing buzz around The Ring, which has followed a similar strategy.

12 novembre - Un po' di news:

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: 'Mile' Stone. ''8 Mile'' trounces box office competition -- The Eminem drama came close to becoming the biggest R-rated movie opening ever, scoring $54.5 million its first weekend by Dave Karger. '8' IS MORE THAN ENOUGH Eminem's flick almost topped ''Hannibal''. It's official: Eminem is as popular as Hannibal Lecter. No one expected the rap star's ''8 Mile'' to break ''Hannibal'''s record for the biggest R-rated movie opening ever, but few industry watchers ever thought it would be this close. According to studio estimates, ''8 Mile'' premiered this weekend with a massive $54.5 million, falling only $3.5 million short of ''Hannibal'''s $58 million benchmark, set last year. EW.com's prediction of $40 million was actually one of the more optimistic; several of the top box office predictors had the film opening in the $25 million-$35 million range. What accounts for Em's tremendous opening? First of all, timing. The drama, in which the star plays an aspiring rapper who has a troubled relationship with his mother (sound familiar?), debuted in theaters just days after the film's soundtrack topped the Billboard album chart, meaning you'd have to be living without a radio not to be aware of the flick. Plus, curiosity was so high among Eminem's fans and detractors alike, both male and female, that millions of moviegoers rushed out to see the film opening day, when it grossed a fantastic $20.9 million alone. And strong reviews for the film meant that audiences flocked to ''8 Mile'' throughout the weekend. Most impressively, even though many returning films performed well, ''8 Mile'' more than doubled its closest competition. Last week's top film, ''The Santa Clause 2,'' slipped only 15 percent from its $29 million debut to $24.8 million. (Family films usually exhibit smaller declines.) The 10-day total for the Tim Allen sequel stands at $60.1 million. And the horror thriller ''The Ring'' fell only 11 percent to $16.1 million (the cynic in me thinks some kids might have bought tickets to the PG-13 flick and snuck into ''8 Mile''), bringing its total to an amazing $86.2 million. A final take of $125 million seems likely. Even the poorly received Eddie Murphy action comedy ''I Spy'' didn't fall as much as expected. Its $9 million gross this weekend was down 29 percent from last week. And ''Jackass the Movie'' exhibited the largest drop in the top five, plummeting 43 percent to $7.2 million. But at least it fared better than ''Femme Fatale,'' the new Brian DePalma thriller starring Rebecca Romijn-Stamos and Antonio Banderas, which opened in ninth place with only $2.8 million (the film, which debuted Wednesday, had a $3.5 million long weekend). Looks like ''Fatale'' was itself fatally affected by its savage reviews.

NEW YORK - Fino a ieri era l'indiscusso «enfant terrible» dello showbiz americano. I COLLEGHI.

JAM SHOWBIZ: Eminem's 8 Mile races to No. 1 box-office debut with $54.5 million US. LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Eminem show has conquered U.S. movie theatres. 8 Mile, the rapper's semi-autobiographical movie debut, took in $54.5 million US in its first weekend -- the sort of success that eludes most pop stars when they try to cross over to film. It was the second-best opening ever for an R-rated film behind Hannibal, which debuted last year with $58 million. The big debut and strong results for holdover films lifted the overall box office. The top 12 movies grossed $133.8 million, up 15 per cent over the same weekend last year. In 8 Mile, Eminem plays a young white singer struggling in the black-dominated hip-hop scene of Detroit's bleak Eight Mile area, where Eminem grew up. 8 Mile bumped last weekend's No. 1 movie, The Santa Clause 2, into second place with $24.8 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. The triumph of 8 Mile follows the No. 1 debut of the film's soundtrack this month and the chart-topping success of the singer's latest album, The Eminem Show. The movie's huge opening indicates Eminem has gained more mainstream acceptance after critics branded him a homophobe and misogynist for violent, obscenity-laced lyrics on his previous best-selling records. Universal, which distributed the movie, said women made up 53 per cent of the audience. And while 69 per cent of the audience was younger than 25, a fair number of older adults showed up, the studio said. "A lot more parents are interested in it than I would have thought," said Nikki Rocco, Universal's head of distribution. "In my neighbourhood, we went to a theatre nearby and quite frankly, I saw parents in their 40s and 50s going to see the film with their teens." Results for 8 Mile far exceeded the studio's expectations. As late as Friday morning, Rocco said she had been hoping for an opening-weekend gross of $25 million to $30 million. "Eminem's on top of the world," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations. "Right now, he's just the hottest thing going." Playing in a relatively modest 2,470 theatres, 8 Mile averaged a whopping $22,050 a cinema. The weekend's only other new wide release, Brian De Palma's crime thriller Femme Fatale, opened weakly at No. 9 with $2.8 million, averaging $2,655 in 1,066 theatres. Todd Haynes' 1950s-era melodrama Far From Heaven, starring Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid, opened big in limited release. The film grossed $207,000 in six theatres for an impressive $34,518 average. Unlike many singers aiming for big-screen success, Eminem benefited from a collaboration with top-notch filmmakers. Directed by Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential, Wonder Boys) and produced by Brian Grazer (an Academy Award winner for last year's A Beautiful Mind), 8 Mile earned solid overall reviews and good notices for Eminem and his co-stars, including Kim Basinger. Singers such as Ice Cube and LL Cool J have done well on film but often in ensemble or supporting roles. Madonna has had a fitful film career, including the major flops Shanghai Surprise and this fall's Swept Away. Britney Spears's Crossroads was a minor success last spring. Mariah Carey had perhaps the most notable bomb among pop-star flicks with last year's Glitter. "Typically, expectations are extremely low for this kind of movie. People go, 'Oh, another pop star in a movie,'" Dergarabedian said. "8 Mile raises the standard for pop stars in terms of what is possible in a movie if the filmmaking pedigree is there." Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at North American theatres, according to Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. Final figures will be released Monday.

EONLINE: Eminem's "8 Mile" High. Eminem wound up the weekend miles ahead of the competition. His 8 Mile racked up a huge $54.4 million, its first place box-office finish matching its soundtrack's top-of-the-charts' debut earlier this week. (The rare twofer was last pulled off in January 2001 by Jennifer Lopez with The Wedding Planner and J.Lo.) If estimates hold, Eminem's acting debut in the semi-fictional tale of a shady hip-hopper's Detroit roots was the second best R-rated opener ever. Only that cannibal Hannibal gobbled up more--$58 million. The 8 Mile haul was almost twice what Universal had been expecting, and played to all demographics. Sixty-nine percent of the audience was under 25, more than half female (despite the star's misogynist lyrics) and just less than half Hispanic and black. Universal's head of distribution, Nikki Rocco, claimed parents were accompanying their teenagers (got to obey that R rule, natch). Directed by Curtis Hanson and costarring Kim Basinger as the trailer-park mom and Mekhi Phifer as the rap contest entrepreneur, 8 Mile scored the fifth best opening of the year, behind the seemingly more mainstream likes of Spider-Man, Star Wars: Episode II--Attack of the Clones, Austin Powers in Goldmember and Signs. 8 Mile was also the fifth best November opener ever, behind the usual-suspects list of family fare: 2001's Harry Potter and the Scorcer's Stone and Monsters, Inc., along with Toy Story 2 and Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Eminem's flick debuted in 2,470 theaters and averaged an amazing $22,050 per screen. The 8 Mile avalanche buried last week's number, The Santa Clause 2. Still, the Tim Allen sequel only dropped 15 percent from its high-flying pre-Yule opening, taking $24.8 million in second place to bring its two-week haul to a jolly $60.1 million. Not such good news for Femme Fatale, the sexy thriller that thrusts together Rebecca Romijn-Stamos and Antonio Banderas, under Brian De Palma's direction. The film was only able to bed down in ninth place with $2.8 million. Since opening Wednesday at 1,066 theaters, the R-rated Warners release has taken in only $3.4 million. In limited release,Far from Heaven earned a dreamy $34,518 average at just six screens for $207,110. The PG-13 Focus Feature stars Julianne Moore, Dennis Quaid and Dennis Haysbert in a fanciful Todd Haynes' rethink of the swoony romantic melodramas of the 1950s. As usual there was good news for this era's romantic hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which, though dropping two screens, actually gained 2 percent in sixth place with $5.7 million. The little independent has now earned $192.7 million in 30 weeks, edging closer and closer to the big, fat $200 million milestone. Holding in third place with $16 million The Ring continued its expected creep towards the $100 million mark. The spooky thriller has now earned $86.1 million in four weeks. Overall business for the top 12 movies was up a major 33 percent from last weekend, the $134 million combined total registering 15 percent higher than this time last year. Here is how the top 10 shakes down, according to estimates compiled by Exhibitor Relations (official studio tallies will be released Monday).

THE NUMBERS: The Ring continued to show great legs, down only 11 percent in third place with $16 million. I Spy finished fourth, holding decently with $9 million.  Jackass: The Moviewas an okay fifth with $7.2 million. Driven by 8 Mile, key films were up nearly 17 percent from last year -- $141.6 million versus $121.4 million. Universal and Imagine Entertainment's R rated drama 8 Mile kicked off in first place, setting a number of records with a muscular ESTIMATED $54.46 million at 2,470 theaters ($22,050 per theater), the year's fifth biggest opening. 8 Mile's average per theater was the highest for any film playing in wide release this weekend. Directed by Curtis Hanson and produced by Brian Grazer, it stars Eminem, Kim Basinger, Brittany Murphy and Mekhi Phifer. "It set a record for the largest opening on its playdate," Universal distribution president Nikki Rocco said Sunday morning. "It's Curtis Hanson's record. It's Brian Grazer's second biggest opening -- and that's only behind $55.1 million (for) Grinch. It's the fourth largest non-holiday November opening behind Harry Potter, Monsters, Inc. and Grinch. And these are all family films. It's the largest November R rated film and the second largest R rated film (opening ever, following) Hannibal at $58 million." Who was on hand opening weekend? "Under-25 was the audience," Rocco explained. "There's no question this is a film (people) under 25 are going to embrace on opening weekend. 69 percent was under 25. That's not to say there weren't some adults that sampled it -- 31 percent was over the age of 25. We knew we would (reach the young audience) because the main reason for wanting to come see 8 Mile was Eminem. It also drew a slightly more female audience -- 53 percent of the audience was female. It was very ethnically mixed across all quadrants -- Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic, Asian and Other. (These are) all great signs." The studio's exit polls showed that 86 percent of the opening weekend audience rated 8 Mile in the Top Two Boxes (excellent and very good). Asked if Universal will go wider with the film, Rocco noted, "We'll see tomorrow (Monday). This is not about numbers of playdates. If there are theaters that can support opening the film and playing through Thanksgiving, I will consider it. This is not about numbers. I think the story is that it's not necessary to be in over 3,000 playdates to launch a film of this magnitude. "I think we were very smart covering as many markets in North America as we could, not over saturating the markets and making sure these theaters were amply covered with additional prints so they had enough seats. More (theaters) is not necessarily better. We were in 2,470 playdates, but we also had over 3,900 screens. We made sure there were an ample number of seats (to accommodate audiences)."

Movie Reviews: '8 Mile' - Box-office analysts are debating just how far 8 Mile will go this weekend, given the fact that its R rating locks out the natural audience for this semi-autobiographical movie about -- and starring -- rapper Eminem. Still, an older audience may be drawn to the film in an effort to gain some understanding of the attraction of rap music and -- perhaps primarily -- to see why Eminem has received such ecstatic reviews for his performance. Ann Hornaday in The Washington Post writes that the white rapper "holds his own with confidence and a prowling, growling physical grace. With his enormous eyes and the sort of aristocratic mouth that could have been painted in Renaissance Italy, he has the face of a bruised angel. It's impossible not to watch him, which is the prime factor in making a movie star." Joe Morgenstern in the Wall Street Journal writes that he "proves himself a skillful actor, and a powerful one." What's more, he writes, the movie itself "stands head, shoulders and heart above every other Hollywood movie that we've seen so far this year." Rick Groen in the Toronto Globe and Mail begins his review this way: "Some movies, a very few, possess the purity of myth, and they don't have to be great to be greatly important. The Wild One is an example; Saturday Night Fever is another. Now add 8 Mile to that short list." As for Eminem, he writes: "From Jolson through Sinatra to Elvis and beyond, the American screen is littered with pop singers who have turned their tonsils to acting, but none who can command the lens like this guy." Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun Times is one of the few critics who appear unimpressed. "As an actor, Eminem is convincing without being electric," he writes. "Whether he has a future as a movie actor is open to question." Eleanor Ringel Gillespie in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution sums up: "As a bona-fide movie, 8 Mile is insulting swill. But as a launching pad for its star, it's quite shrewd." And Peter Howell in the Toronto Star finds Eminem's performance "underwhelming" and adds: "If you didn't know going in that the artist formerly known as Marshall Mathers is the greatest thing since the last greatest thing, some 15 minutes ago, you might reasonably assume he's just another sullen kid with an interest in vulgar rhyming." Many of the reviewers remark that the most impressive thing about the film may not be Eminem's acting but Curtis Hanson's direction. Kenneth Turan in the Los Angeles Times describes Hanson (L.A. Confidential, Wonder Boys) as "one of Hollywood's most accomplished classicists, a director whose films seem instinctively to make all the right moves." And Michael Sragow in the Baltimore Sun concludes: "No director over the last decade has demonstrated greater growth leaps or delivered more various and deeper pleasures than Curtis Hanson.". Whether or not Universal's bet pays off in the long term, this weekend it seems certain that 8 Mile will be the hot ticket. I'm going to predict a healthy $10,000 per theater average and an opening weekend around $25 million. Femme Fatale is this week's other wide opener, but I don't see it making an impact in the top 5. Based on its opening on Wednesday, it's set for a $3 million weekend, and 9th place in the chart. That leaves The Ring my pick for 2nd place, with the thriller likely to record another $18 million weekend, by my estimate. The Santa Clause 2 has had weak daily numbers so far, and I'm going to project a $16 million second weekend in release.

THE NUMBERS - Weekend Box Office (November 8 - 10, 2002). THIS WEEKEND Moviegoers lined up by the millions to see multi-platinum rapper Eminem make his feature film debut in Universal's urban drama 8 Mile which generated a monstrous $51.2M opening, according to final studio figures, surpassing all industry expectations and topping a robust box office frame. Though large, the final gross was over $3M less than originally estimated. Directed by Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential), the R-rated film bowed in only 2,470 theaters and averaged a colossal $20,745 per venue. The opening performance was especially powerful considering its restrictive rating and its theater count which was relatively low by event film standards. In the end, 8 Mile delivered the second largest opening ever for an R pic behind MGM's Hannibal which bowed to $58M from a wider 3,230 theaters in February of last year. With a story based on Eminem's real life experiences, 8 Mile follows a pivotal week in the life of a poor white kid from Detroit who uses rapping as a means to escape his troubles. Fans of the controversial artist, mostly teens and young adults, made up a built-in audience for the film by running to their local multiplex the minute the highly-anticipated picture was available. The huge numbers, however, indicate that the picture may have caught the eyes of non-fans who were sold on the positive reviews and were curious to see what the headline-grabbing MC was all about. 8 Mile exploded on Friday with $19.76M in ticket sales, slipped 4% to $18.9M on Saturday, and dropped 33% to $12.6M on Sunday. The Eminem film posted the fourth best opening in the history of Universal after The Lost World ($72.1M), The Mummy Returns ($68.1M), and How the Grinch Stole Christmas ($55.1M). It also registered the fifth largest November bow trailing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ($90.3M), Monsters Inc. ($62.6M), Toy Story 2 ($57.4M), and Grinch. All those movies blasted off in over 3,000 theaters while 8 Mile opened in under 2,500 locations. 8 Mile also scored the third best opening average this year for a wide release after the megablockbusters Spider-Man ($31,769) and Star Wars Episode II ($25,317). Produced for $41M, 8 Mile is well on its way to becoming yet another moneymaker for Eminem. In three short years, the real Slim Shady has conquered the music industry scoring number-one albums, breaking sales records, winning Grammys, and selling millions of records in the process. In fact, the 8 Mile soundtrack is currently the number one album in the country and the lead single "Lose Yourself" is atop the singles charts. According to exit polls from Universal, the audience was understandably young and ethnically diverse, but surprisingly more female. Those under 25 accounted for 59% of the audience and almost half the crowd was black or latino. Females made up 53% of the audience. Fans were pleased with 8 Mile as the film earned a B+ grade from CinemaScore.com with the core under-21 segment giving it an A. The $51M weekend figure may not even give an accurate reading on the exact audience size. Many underage fans not able to get into the R-rated picture may have purchased tickets to films with less restrictive ratings and snuck into the 8 Mile auditoriums. Scanning the rest of the top ten, movies with G, PG, and PG-13 ratings displayed remarkably low declines across the board while R pics all had the worst drops. Last weekend's number one film, The Santa Clause 2, was knocked back to second place, but remained extremely jolly sliding just 15% to $24.7M. Disney's family comedy has grabbed $60M in only ten days but faces stiff competition for kids from next weekend's Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as well as Disney's own Treasure Planet which launches over Thanksgiving weekend. Still, Clause 2 looks well on its way to a gross of around $130-150M. Still displaying great legs in its fourth weekend was the suspense smash The Ring which scared up $15.5M for a decline of just 14%. The DreamWorks hit has grossed $85.6M thus far and should cross the $100M mark next weekend. Eddie Murphy's I Spy dipped 31% to $8.8M in its second weekend raising the ten-day cume of the $70M film to $24.5M. Former top dog Jackass: The Movie dropped 44% to $7.1M in its third weekend pushing its 17-day total to $53.2M. In its 30th weekend, My Big Fat Greek Wedding witnessed another uptick inching up 4% to $5.9M. With $192.9M in the bank, the IFC Films smash now sits at number 46 on the list of all-time domestic blockbusters after 1989's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade ($197.2M). Of course, ticket prices were much lower thirteen years ago. Look for Greek Wedding to sprint past the $200M mark in another week. Slipping 17% to seventh place was Buena Vista's Sweet Home Alabama with $3.8M weekend and $118.5M cume. Horror entry Ghost Ship tumbled 53% to $3.2M giving the Warner Bros. suspenser $26.2M after 17 days. The studio also launched the erotic thriller Femme Fatale over the weekend which flopped with $2.78M from 1,066 locations. The Antonio Banderas-Rebecca Romijn-Stamos pic averaged just $2,604 and collected $3.4M since its Wednesday opening. Rounding out the top ten was Salma Hayek's Frida which expanded from 47 to 319 theaters and saw its weekend gross climb to $2.75M. The Miramax release averaged a fiesty $8,634 and upped its sum to $4.5M. Another limited-release winner flirting with the top ten was UA's Bowling for Columbine which widened from 162 to 222 playdates and grossed $1.6M. Michael Moore's documentary on America's gun culture averaged a strong $7,024 and lifted its cume to an impressive $6.8M. Next weekend, Columbine will surpass 1994's Hoop Dreams to become the highest-grossing doc ever. Generating big numbers in a limited bow in New York and Los Angeles was the Focus Features drama Far From Heaven which commanded $211,279 from just six sites. The Julianne Moore film averaged a stellar $35,213 and adds more markets this Friday before a much wider expansion on Nov 22 into roughly 250 theaters. A trio of films fell out of the top ten. Universal's Hannibal Lecter prequel Red Dragon took in $1.6M in its sixth frame, off 43%, hitting $91.5M overall. The $78M production should conclude with about $95M domestically. Fox Searchlight's Brown Sugar dropped 38% to $1M for a cume of $26M. Budgeted at under $10M, the romantic comedy looks to finish with around $28M. The Adam Sandler film Punch-Drunk Love fell 38% to $2.5M giving the Sony release $14.5M to date. The top ten films grossed $125.8M which was up 12% from last year when Monsters Inc. remained at number one with $45.6M; and up 37% from 2000 when Charlie's Angels stayed in the top spot with $24.6M. Compared to projections, 8 Mile blasted past my $25M forecast while Femme Fatale debuted on target with my $3M prediction. Take this week's NEW Reader Survey on the opening of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. In last week's survey, readers were asked which of Leonardo Dicaprio's two new December releases would gross more domestically. Of 1,677 responses, 71% picked Catch Me If You Can while 29% selected Gangs of New York.

17 novembre - Un po' di news:

MORE MUSIC FROM 8 MILE uscirà nei negozi il prossimo 3 dicembre.

Eminem keeps Justin from the top of the chart - The ''8 Mile'' soundtrack is No. 1 for a second week, beating Timberlake's much-anticipated ''Justified'. At the movies, Eminem may be about to get his butt kicked by a 12-year-old English kid with a broom, but on the Billboard album chart, he's defending his reign against all comers. His ''8 Mile'' soundtrack remains on top for the second week, selling another 508,500 copies, according to SoundScan, pushing its total sales well over the platinum (1 million) mark and defending its perch against challenges by new releases from Justin Timberlake and U2. Interest in ''8 Mile,'' last weekend's top movie, also boo! sted sales of the rapper's six-month-old ''The Eminem Show,'' which rose one spot to No. 7 and approached the 7 million mark in total sales. / Eminem Controls Billboard Charts - Eminem's "Lose Yourself" commands Billboard's Hot 100 for a third-straight week, as the rapper rides high in the worlds of both music and movies. His first major feature film, "8 Mile," is No. 1 at the U.S. box office, and its accompanying Shady/Interscope album, on which "Lose Yourself" appears, has became the first soundtrack to lead The Billboard 200 through its first two weeks of release. As reported yesterday, the "8 Mile" set sold another 508,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, to withstand a powerful charge from Justin Timberlake's debut solo album, "Justified" (Jive), which sold 439,000 copies in its first week. "Lose Yourself" also becomes Eminem's first top-10 track on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks tally, where it moves up one to No. 10. Further up that chart, Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott's "Work It" replaces LL Cool J's "Luv U Better" at No. 1, marking her second No. 1 on the tally. Her last, "Hot Boyz" featuring Nas, Eve, and Q-Tip, led the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart for six weeks in early 2000. "Work It" is also No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Rap Tracks chart. While "Work It" is the Hot 100's fastest-growing track at radio, it continues to settle for No. 2 behind Eminem's "Lose Yourself," but withstands a 6-3 charge from No Doubt's "Underneath It All" featuring Lady Saw. "Luv U Better" holds at No. 4, and Cam'ron's "Hey Ma" featuring Juelz Santana, Freekey Zekey & Toya rounds out the top-5. Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful," which punctures the Hot 100 at No. 62, is the tally's top debut. The second radio single from her RCA album "Stripped," which falls two rungs to No. 4 on The Billboard 200, arrives ahead of first single "Dirrty," which rebounds 72-68 on the main singles list. Other notable entries on the Hot 100 are 3 Doors Down's "When I'm Gone" at No. 67, Mark Wills' "19 Something" at No. 69, Ja Rule's "Thug Lovin'' featuring Bobby Brown at No. 72, and Audioslave's "Cochise" at No. 77. The Hot 100's fastest-growing track at retail is Benzino's "Rock the Party," which holds fast this week at No. 82. The single has been making noise in urban markets, and breaks the top-30 of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart with a 35-28 jump. Keith Urban's "Somebody Like You" ropes a sixth-week atop Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks roundup, while Rascal Flatts' "These Days" continues to gain ground, moving up 3-2. Bands featuring Dave Grohl continue to dominate Billboard's rock airplay charts. While his Foo Fighters' "All My Life" knocks Nirvana's "You Know You're Right" from the top of Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks tally, the latter remains in control of the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for a fourth-straight week.

18 novembre - Eminem To Make '8 Mile' Sequel? - Eminem has proved to be such a success with his new film 8 Mile, movie bosses are now hoping that he'll return for a sequel. The star's gritty semi-autobiographical flick pulled in a huge $54.5 million in just three days, over the weekend, making it the fifth biggest opening of the year. And now bosses are hoping that the Detroit, Michigan native will reprise his role as Jimmy 'Rabbit' Smith once more. President of Universal's marketing Adam Fogelson says, "I'm ecstatic, I'm euphoric. It's certainly not something that we would have predicted going in. There's no question that Eminem is a voice for a young audience but he's also a cultural force that I think everybody is aware of. I would be thrilled if we had a chance to work with Eminem again. It's entirely up to him as to what he wants to do. Clearly anyone who would bet against him doing anything would be making a horrible mistake, because he clearly has the guts." 8 Mile is the second-highest R-rated movie opening ever, behind Sir Anthony Hopkins' acclaimed thriller Hannibal.

19 novembre - Basinger's Tough Regulations on Baldwin: Oscar-winning actress Kim Basinger has set strict limitations on ex-husband Alec Baldwin's contact with their young daughter. The couple, whose divorce became final last December, were still battling over visitation issues as recently as June. And in August, a Los Angeles superior court set out a monthly visitation schedule for Baldwin and listed precise hours when he can call seven-year-old Ireland daily on a private line to be installed in the girl's room by Basinger. It also instructed Baldwin not to phone other household members and ordered him to "commence anger management therapy." Alexander Peters, a friend and neighbor of Baldwin's in Amagansett, New York, says, "Kim makes it as difficult as possible for him to see his daughter. She just makes his life impossible."

20 novembre - ZAP2it - Harry Potter's magic was just too strong for Eminem and his muggle cohorts as "8 Mile" was soundly beaten by "Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets" in the weekend box office. 'Harry Potter' did phenomenally well, earning $87.6 million and contributing to some record-setting box office numbers. This was the third best opening weekend of all-time, coming in behind "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and "Spider-Man." In addition, Friday saw the tenth best single day gross but was then beaten out by Saturday, which saw the third best single day gross ever! "8 Mile" lost a whopping 58 percent of its total box office share but still made $21.3 million, bringing its two-week total to $86.4 million. Some viewers were still hanging on to Halloween and some were ready for Christmas. "The Santa Clause 2" and "The Ring" each dropped one spot but their total grosses are nothing to snicker at. "The Santa Clause 2" has made $82.5 million and "The Ring" has made just over $100 million. The weekend's other new release, "Half Past Dead," which had the dubious honor of receiving almost no positive reviews, managed to lure in enough moviegoers to make $8.2 million. "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" held firm at sixth place for the third week in a row and its total earnings almost broke the $200 million mark. Miramax again widened the release of "Frida," this time adding 200 screens, and saw the film's grosses jump by five percent. The film made $2.8 million, bringing its total earnings to $8.6 million. Rounding out the bottom of the box office chart were "Bowling for Columbine" and "Femme Fatale." Michael Moore's documentary may hang in there for another week but we can probably wave goodbye to Brian DePalma's thriller, which has earned only $3.4 million in its two weeks of release. Weekend studio estimates are based on actual numbers for Friday and Saturday and an extrapolation for Sunday. Box Office Prophest - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets did the obvious this weekend, becoming the number one film by a landslide. While very successful, Chamber of Secrets couldn't overcome totals or records that the first film achieved; no box office records were broken this weekend by Harry Potter, except one for size of release. The question wasn't whether Harry Potter would be the number one film, but instead by how much it would eclipse the runners-up. Potter and his home studio, Warner Bros., did not disappoint, but didn't overwhelm box office watchers either. The Friday number told the tale of the tape. $28.9 million was reported as the Friday total, and BOP's box office calculators went to work. Sunday morning the Saturday number was given as $33.6 million, meaning Potter had a formidable increase from Friday to Saturday of $4.7 million, or a surprisingly large 17% increase. The Saturday gross was actually larger than any of the single day totals from the opening weekend of the first film, coming in at number three on the biggest days list behind the two opening days for Spider-Man. With this information, we know that Sunday is being estimated at $25.2 million. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was the number one film this weekend, taking in $87.7 million over the three-day period. Released at a record 3,682 venues with a print count of 8,500, Chamber of Secrets had a fantastic venue average of $23,816, and an individual print average of $10,316. Other than breadth of release, Chamber of Secrets couldn't touch any of the records broken by The Sorcerer's Stone a year ago. Spider-Man hadn't come down the pike yet, so at the time the original Harry Potter set records for opening weekend and biggest single day among others. This time around, the total for the opening weekend will put Chamber of Secrets on the all-time opener list at number three, while its estimated Saturday gross puts it on the top single-day list at number three, with the Friday gross in at number nine. I still find it hard to believe that Spider-Man almost grossed more in its first two days ($83.0 million) than Potter 2 did in three days. Is there any chance that Chamber of Secrets may end up being a bigger film than The Sorcerer's Stone? Globally, probably not, as the first film finished in second place all-time on the worldwide box office chart. Still, domestically there might be a shot - the studio will love the big increase from Friday to Saturday, always a good sign of a leggy film. The Cinemascores appear to be better than the original, but they aren't really. The first film's average Cinemascore was an A, after it received three A+'s from under 21s and female 21-34s, with the rest of the demos giving A's. Chamber of Secrets accumulated the exact same scores, but, oddly enough its overall grade was a higher A+. At RottenTomatoes, Chamber of Secrets had 128 reviews posted, with 104 being positive, for a fresh rating of 81%. The first film gathered 156 reviews, with 122 positives, for a fresh rating of 78%. There is no data that suggests that Chamber of Secrets will be bigger that Sorcerer's Stone, unless something odd happens in the next few weekends. We'll have to wait and see. Second spot is a story unto itself, and that is the drop that Eminem's 8 Mile took this weekend. Due to distinctly different demographic patterns, there was no real competition factor from Harry Potter for 8 Mile, but it still got the wind knocked out of it. 8 Mile dropped a stunning 58.4% in its second weekend, indicating that the crossover for the rap film is going to be limited. 8 Mile grossed $21.3 million this weekend from 2,499 venues, an increase of only 28 screens, for a still-great venue average of $8,535. One might have thought that after 8 Mile opened so dramatically last weekend that Universal would have increased the venue count more drastically, taking the film into smaller markets. This weekend's number strips the wonder from last week's open for 8 Mile, and now makes it more of a typical severely front-loaded urban release, just on a larger scale. This chuckage will most likely cease any Oscar talk that once surrounded the film. Still, with a ten-day gross of $86.4 million and a budget of $50 million, no one at Universal can be too upset. And for that matter, let's not drive the stake into 8 Mile until next weekend's performance is added to the trend. In at third is the remarkably resilient Santa Clause 2. There was some question as to how SC2 would perform in the face of Harry Potter. BOP's main prognosticator, Reagen Sulewski, was quick to point out on Thursday that Monsters, Inc., the venerable title from Pixar and Disney, lost 50% of its audience when it faced off against the first Potter, although it was coming off of a $45.5 million weekend. Even with a smaller previous weekend on its side, Santa Clause 2 still dropped 39% this weekend, resulting in a $15.1 million weekend. Monsters, Inc. had the saving grace of the following weekend being Thanksgiving, when it actually increased 5%. SC2 doesn't have that benefit next weekend and after that, competition will again be a factor over the coming holiday. In this case, the threat will come from its own sister studio in the form of Disney's Treasure Planet (although I think that TP is in big trouble). SC2 sits at $82.5 million right now, and will have an outside shot at breaking the $100 million barrier next weekend. In at fourth is The Ring, the Halloween movie that held up better than the Christmas movie. The Ring dropped only 29% this weekend and crossed the $100 million line today, its 31st day of release. The successful horror flick grossed $11.0 million this frame, keeping its nose above the $10 million mark for the fifth straight week. For the first time in its run, the DreamWorks film lost screens, as the total dropped 45 to 2,882 for a screen average of $3,827. The total for The Ring sits at $101.6 million, with at least another $25-30 million still to come. Fifth spot goes to Half Past Dead, a film that I had hoped would finish further down so that it would allow My Big Fat Greek Wedding to enter the top five again. It wasn't to be, as Half Past Dead opened with a stronger than expected $8.2 million from 2,113 screens, for a not-so-good opening weekend average of $3,881. It's hard to believe, but Steven Seagal is still getting work. I guess the surprise open of Exit Wounds ($18.5 million) helps. With three new releases next weekend, maybe we'll get lucky and this will be off the chart by that time. Hanging onto the six spot is My Big Fat Greek Wedding, the long-time top ten box office resident. Down a surprising 19.5%, the IFC film grossed $4.7 million in its 31st week, and suffered its biggest drop since May 31st, when it was down 26% on a small number of screens. For the first time in its remarkable run, MBFGW lost 163 screens compared to the week previous. I sincerely hope that IFC is playing this right - this film has been a success story for seven and a half months due to a smart roll-out strategy. Is Wedding done? We'll know a lot more after we examine its performance over the US holiday in a couple of weeks. The total now stands at $199.6 million, and the film will break the $200 million mark some time this week. Check the chart below for films on the all time grosser chart that Wedding has either passed this week, or will pass in the next seven days. In at seventh is jackass: the movie. jackass got crunched this weekend as it lost 43% of its audience, grossing $4.0 million. The film will go down as one of the great success stories of the year, as it had a Greek Wedding budget and now has a total of $59.5 million. Eighth place goes to I Spy, the box office disappointment starring Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson. I Spy had a fairly good hold last weekend, only losing 31%, but couldn't come close to matching that feat this week. I Spy grossed a miniscule $4 million in its third (and probably final) weekend on the chart. The film dropped 54.6% this frame, bringing its paltry total up to $30.9 million. For those playing at home, I Spy had a budget of $70 million. Ninth is a nice surprise as Frida enters the chart for real this weekend. Last weekend, Frida had been estimated out of the top ten, but when actuals showed up on Monday afternoon, it turned out that the film had grabbed the ten spot. This weekend, Frida scored $2.9 million from a still very low 519 venues. Its weekend-to-weekend comparison was up 5%, and it had a nice venue average of $5,568. Frida stars Salma Hayek as the famed Mexican painter, who was married twice in her lifetime to the even more famous muralist, Diego Rivera. From a historical aspect, Frida isn't that great, but it works well as a film, especially the performance of Alfred Molina, who is great in the Diego Rivera role. If this film is playing in your area (and you're over 18) you should check this film out. The box office total for Frida has now reached $8.6 million, and with a budget of only $12 million, this art film should turn the trick with ease. Enjoying its last weekend on the chart is Sweet Home Alabama, barely hanging onto the top ten. Down 38%, SHA grossed $2.4 million, and has brought its total up to a quite impressive $122 million. Booted out of the top ten this weekend are Ghost Ship (yay!) and Femme Fatale, the latter gone after only one weekend. Three new releases hit next weekend, including the new Bond flick, Die Another Day and the third film in the 'Friday' trilogy, Friday After Next. Opening most likely on a smaller level is The Emperor's Club, the new Dead Poet's Society rip-off with Kevin Kline. Check out BOP's release schedule for more information on these films, as well as the upcoming Thanksgiving releases. Totals for the weekend were closer to last year's figures than expected, even with the big drop from 8 Mile. Last year, with the first Harry Potter and Monsters, Inc., the top ten grossed an out-of-this-world $150.08 million. This year, with Chamber of Secrets and 8 Mile, the box office grossed a still out-of-this-world $161.3 million. Shockingly, this weekend was up over last year by 7.5%. Box office USA:

Ecco la tracklist di “More Music From 8 Mile”:

"Shook Ones, Pt. 2," Mobb Deep

"Juicy," the Notorious BIG

"Gotta Get Mine" MC Breed (w/2Pac)

"Feel Me Flow," Naughty by Nature
