14 marzo: 8 MILE had a great weekend at the international box office this weekend thanks to strong holdovers in France and Belgium. We opened in Russia, Bulgaria and Ukraine this weekend but today is a holiday in those countries so weekend figures will be available tomorrow. This weekend, it grossed $4.1M on 1,230 screens in 17 countries. In France, 8 MILE is No. 1 for the second consecutive week with a gross of $2.7M on 489 screens, off 42%. The 12-day cume is an excellent $8.2M. Belgium had an excellent holdover. It grossed $549k on 55 screens, off only 9% from last week¡¯s great opening. The 12-day cume is $1.5M. 8 MILE opens in Italy on March 14, Brazil opens March 21 and Japan opens on June 14. $92,545,108 $92,545,108 $209,269,183.

	17 marzo: LA REPUBBLICA - SPETTACOLI & CULTURA - Uscito venerdì, il film conquista la vetta della classifica. E' il più visto in Italia durante il weekend. Cinema, Eminem vola. Trionfo per "8 Mile". "The ring" finisce al terzo posto. Al secondo "La finestra di fronte". ROMA - Il cattivo ragazzo del rap conquista i botteghini italiani. Il film 8 Mile, protagonista la popstar Eminem, al suo primo weekend al cinema ha incassato 2 milioni 865 mila euro, realizzando la più alta media per sala con poco meno di 9 mila euro, e piazzandosi immediatamente in cima alla classifica. Un vero trionfo, dunque, per la storia autobiografica del rapper di Detroit, diretta dal regista Curtis Hanson, con Kim Basinger nei panni della madre del protagonista, ruolo che le è valso una nomination all'Oscar. Un successo che dimostra ancora una volta l'efficacia dei film destinati al pubblico più giovane, figli dei teen-movies che fin da Scream hanno fatto la fortuna dei botteghini di tutto il mondo. Non a caso, prima di 8 Mile il film saldamente ancorato in cima alla classifica era The ring, horror-movie che gira intorno a un misterioso videotape e alla morte proprio di quattro adolescenti. E che il successo di 8 Mile fa invece precipitare al terzo posto in classifica, complice La finestra di fronte che invece conquista la seconda posizione. Un successo annunciato quello di Eminem, icona della Mtv generation e bad boy per eccellenza. Che racconta la propria storia di sacrifici e riscatto, a ritmo di rap e street-style, sullo sfondo della Detroit fine Anni Novanta, teatro delle miserie quotidiane di bianchi e neri nei quartieri degradati dela città. Con quella 8 Mile Road che dà il titolo al film, la strada che segna il perimetro della città, ma anche la linea che divide la realtà urbana da quella delle periferie, i bianchi dai neri. E per molti giovani, come Eminem, l'hip hop è l'unico strumento di riscatto. Fra gli incassi del weekend, è da registrate anche l'ingresso di Io non ho paura, il film di Gabriele Salvatoresuscito venerdì, fra i più visti con 792 mila euro. Mentre precipita all'ultimo posto della top ten Ricordati di me di Gabriele Muccino, che incassa 259 mila euro e raggiunge i 9 milioni e 565 mila euro. Il resto della classifica resta saldamente in mano al cinema made in Usa.
	20 marzo: L'ARENA - Il film «8Mile», ispirato alla sua vita, dopo aver incassato negli Stati Uniti 118 milioni di dollari, è arrivato in Italia conquistando subito il primo posto nella classifica del fine settimana. In America il 70% del pubblico che l’ha visto ha meno di 25 anni. Il fenomeno si sta ripetendo qui. Eminem muove i giovani. Roma. Negli Usa in 18 settimane di programmazione ha incassato 118 milioni di dollari, in Italia da venerdì scorso è arrivato quasi a 3 milioni di euro e si è piazzato subito in testa alla classifica degli incassi del week end: « 8 Mile» il film con il rapper Eminem che racconta la rabbia dei ragazzi di Detroit, ha mobilitato le grandi platee giovanili. In America hanno calcolato che quasi il 70% del pubblico che lo ha visto nei primi tre giorni di programmazione era sotto i 25 anni. E anche in Italia, dove dati di questo genere non sono ancora disponibili, è probabile che la composizione della platea sia grosso modo la stessa. Tanto è vero che nel week end in cui è uscito « 8 Mile» , un altro film amato dai teen ager, «The Ring» , è sceso dal primo al terzo posto nella classifica degli incassi. Del resto è soprattutto ai giovani che si rivolge la musica rap di cui Eminem è oggi uno dei massimi esponenti e che invade la colonna sonora del film. Nel novembre scorso, quando « 8 Mile» uscì in America, Eminem fu contemporaneamente in testa alla classifica dei dischi più ascoltati e dei film più visti. Era accaduto una volta sola in precedenza, a Jennifer Lopez. « 8 Mile» è il nome della strada che taglia a metà Detroit e separa il mondo degli americani tranquilli dalla furia della strada in cui il rap, la delinquenza e la rabbia dei ragazzi (soprattutto di colore) sono le uniche leggi per sopravvivere. Eminem, incarnando il protagonista, racconta un pò la sua storia di povertà e degrado in quelle strade di Detroit prima di diventare un eroe dell’hip hop. Kim Basinger interpreta l’odiata madre dedita all’alcol, un ruolo che le è valso una candidatura all’Oscar . A Detroit, nel 1995, Jimmy Smith Jr. ha la testa piena di sogni che non riesce a esprimere. La sua vita di adolescente si snoda tra il quartiere bianco e il ghetto nero, lungo questa linea di demarcazione che spacca in due la città.. Nonostante tutti i suoi sforzi, Jimmy non ha mai superato questa barriera simbolica e continua ad accumulare sconfitte familiari, lavorative e sentimentali. Ispirato alla tumultuosa vita di Eminem, «8Mile» è il manifesto di una gioventù che non riesce a credere al domani. In Europa Eminem, prima di arrivare sugli schermi col suo film, aveva recentemente trionfato agli European Music Awards di Barcellona, promossi dall’emittente con target giovanile Mtv Europe, dove aveva vinto ben tre premi: miglior cantante maschile, miglior artista del genere hip hop e miglior disco per « The Eminem Show » .
	21 marzo: TGCOM: "8 Mile, il riscatto di Eminem. Esce il film sugli esordi del rapper. Periferie degradate, giovani senza avvenire, atmosfere opprimenti... Tutto questo è Detroit in "8 Mile", il film che racconta gli esordi dell'idolo dell'hip hop. Nella città Usa dell'auto, malata di una crisi senza ritorno, l'unico sfogo per i ragazzi è la musica. Eminem, per la prima volta attore, si cimenta in agguerrite gare di "freestyle" in fumosi e affollati locali. Il film, diretto da Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential) uscirà il 14 marzo. Abbandonato dal padre e con una madre alcolizzata, interpretata da una bravissima Kim Basinger, Jimmy Smith Jr. a.k.a. Rabbit (questo il nome di Eminem nel film) trova la vera famiglia in un gruppo di amici con cui condivide la squallida vita dei sobborghi metropolitani. L'ottavo miglio, non a caso, rappresenta la linea di demarcazione che divide la zona benestante della città dalle periferie abitate dai neri. Jimmy è un bianco, che osa sfidare questi ultimi su un terreno che più "nero" di così non si può: l'hip hop. E' l'unica speranza di riscatto, il modo per emergere dalla desolazione generale, sentirsi vivi, diventare qualcuno. Magari trovando il contatto giusto per registrare un "demo". Non manca la nota sentimentale: la tormentata storia fra Rabbit e la bella ma un po' sbandata Alex (Brittany Murphy). Un percorso ad ostacoli, fra desiderio di fuga e ricerca di affetto, che Eminem ha sperimentato nella vita sulla propria pelle, riuscendo ad evadere dalla "prigione" di Detroit per diventare in pochi anni una leggenda vivente per gli adolescenti di tutto il mondo. Ma dimentichiamoci l'Eminem irriverente e cattivissimo dei primi tempi. In "8 Mile" il rapper si fa portavoce di un messaggio positivo, di riscatto dei più deboli grazie alla determinazione e alla voglia di darsi da fare. E allora ecco Jimmy che, unico in una banda di perdigiorno, va a lavorare in fabbrica per sbarcare il lunario; eccolo, fratello protettivo nei confronti dell'adorabile sorellina Lily; e ancora, amico leale che non si tira indietro per difendere i torti subiti. Insomma, sembra dirci il rapper, uscire dal ghetto è possibile, a patto di farlo con la testa sulle spalle; e, fatto non secondario, di avere talento da vendere. Perché è questo l'aspetto che, forse più di ogni altro, emerge da "8 Mile" anche agli occhi di chi non segue il rap: l'abilità di Eminem nel condurre con un'energia e un'inventiva incredibili questi entusisamanti duelli - le "freestyle battle" appunto - durante i quali i contendenti si "vomitano" addosso, nello spazio di 45 secondi, rabbia, insulti e sfottò: il tutto, rigorosamente in rima e a ritmo di rap.
	22 marzo: Box office italiano. "8 mile" re del weekend. Incassi da record per il film di Eminem E' "8 Mile" l'incontrastato re dell'ultimo weekend cinematografico. Protagonista il rapper bianco Eminem, per una film che racconta la rabbia giovanile di Detroit. Un successo che, nel fine settimana, fa registrare un incasso di 2 milioni e 865 mila euro. Resta saldamente al secondo posto "La finestra di fronte", di Ozpetek, con Giovanna Mezzogiorno e Raoul Bova (1.195.154 euro), mentre slitta la terzo l'horror "The Ring" (937.409 euro). Al suo esordio, Eminem sbanca, dunque, il box office e non solo si piazza alla top ten del weekend, ma realizza anche la più alta media per sala con poco meno di 9 mila euro. Quarto posto per la saga di James Bond, "007 - La morte può attendere" (806 mila euro). Entra nella classifica dei film più visti nel weekend anche "Io non ho paura" di Gabriele Salvatores, quinto con 792 mila euro, seguito da "The Hours" (725.918 euro), "Chicago" ( 298.061 euro), "Un boss sotto stress" (277.712 euro) e "24 ore" (271.278 euro). Precipita, invece, all'ultimo posto della top ten "Ricordati di me" di Gabriele Muccino, che incassa 259 mila euro.

	24 marzo: Eminem Breaks Record with DVD Sales - Controversial hip-hop star Eminem has set a new record, after sales of his 8 Mile DVD generated a whopping $40 million - on its very first day of release. The DVD, which was released on Tuesday, set a record for an R- rated film, Universal Home Video reports. More than 2 million DVDs were sold in a single day. The disc, available in both censored and uncensored versions, contains new rap battles and Eminem's new music video "Superman," which is available only on the DVD. 8 Mile in DVD conquista gli Usa - Se in Italia ha esordito alla grande nei cinema, 8 MILE si conferma uno dei grandi e forse inattesi successi dell’anno in tutto il mondo. Negli Stati Uniti ha incassato, solo il primo giorno di uscita, quasi 40 milioni di dollari solamente per la vendita in DVD.
	25 marzo: LA STAMPA - FILM-EVENTO CON KIM BASINGER: DALLA POVERTA´ AL SUCCESSO, COME ROCKY. Eminem, un salto oltre «8 Mile». ALMENO tre ragioni spiegano perché «8 Mile» di Curtis Hanson sia bello, un vero film-evento che ha avuto negli Stati Uniti grandisimo successo e che ha rivelato Eminem come un ottimo interprete. Prima cosa, la musica: l'hip hop capace di far sentire vivi, di far provare emozioni, di sfogare rabbie, di servire come arma di confronto e di conflitto per i ragazzi della miseria e della degradazione, soprattutto neri ma eccezionalmente pure un bianco, e anche la bellissima canzone di Eminem, «Lose Yourself», perdi te stesso. Seconda cosa lui, il protagonista: Marshall Mathers, detto agli inizi M&M e più tardi Eminem, trent'anni, rapper famoso, ruvida bellezza popolana, bravo e duro, uno di quegli artisti trasgressivi e sovversivi, terribili o terribilisti, con i quali il mondo dello spettacolo americano ama civettare almeno sino a quando la loro malvagità rimane innocua. Il titolo «8 Mile» allude alla via (anche un confine sociale) che divide il centro dalla periferia, i bianchi dai neri, i poveri dai meno poveri, a Detroit: città-simbolo di fallimento neocapitalista e di disfaciento urbano, dopo essere stata la metropoli dell'automobile. Il film somiglia a suo modo a «Radiofreccia» di Luciano Ligabue o a tanti film sul successo come forma di riscatto sociale: dalle epopee di Rocky-Stallone alla febbre ballerina del «Sabato sera» di Travolta, alla danza leggera come un volo di «Billy Elliot» di Dandry. Nel mix tra biografia e immaginazione, il protagonista Jimmy detto Rabbit, Coniglio, è senza padre; ha una madre promiscua, irresponsabile e attaccata al gin che è la cinquantenne Kim Basinger; vive con lei in un camper, nel peggiore dei modi, con le sue cose racchiuse in un sacco nero per la spazzatura; è stato lasciato dalla ragazza che ama; lavora in fabbrica e spera nella musica, anche se il timore della sconfitta e una insicurezza paralizzante lo ammutoliscono nelle gare di rap e lo portano a vomitare se deve presentarsi al pubblico. Naturalmente finisce col superare gli ostacoli: film del genere esistono soltanto in funzione del loro finale. Per ultima, ma non ultima ragione della riuscita e del fascino di «8 Mile», è il suo regista, Curtis Hanson di «L. A. Confidentiual», che ha dato al film una forte patina realistica, romantica, struggente. La città di Detroit, nella sua decadenza di ex Motor Town, ha un'intensità di luogo da fuggire e insieme da non poter lasciare, una povertà dickensiana, un'autentica desolazione. Il protagonista ha momenti, dettagli, solitudini che spezzano il cuore; le luci soprattutto notturne (il giorno è squallore e fatica, ma la notte no) possiedono una intrinseca eloquenza; gli stereotipi sottoculturali del film di genere diventano emozionanti come versi belli.
	26 marzo: Eminem si è aggiudicato un Oscar per il brano "LOSE YOURSELF"! Quindi 1 Oscar per il film 8 MILE!
	27 marzo: L'ARENA - Eminem ha vinto la statuetta per «Lose Yourself», colonna sonora di «8Mile». Il rapper bianco sta ormai spopolando come musicista, attore e compositore. Il cattivo ragazzo dell’Oscar. Milano. Ha avuto tutto nel breve volgere di pochi anni: milioni di dischi venduti in tutto il mondo, un debutto da attore segnato da incassi plurimiliardari e da un coro di critiche favorevoli, la conquista del trono di popstar numero uno della scena musicale occidentale, premi e riconoscimenti come se piovesse. Mancava solo un Oscar: e lui, Marshall Mathers, in arte Eminem, ha puntualmente conquistato anche quello. L'altra sera, a Los Angeles, alla cerimonia per la 75ª edizione degli Oscar del cinema, la sua «Lose Yourself», tema conduttore di «8 Mile», il film che ha segnato il suo debutto nel mondo della celluloide, si è portata a casa una statuetta in qualità di miglior canzone originale, battendo altri preziosi contendenti come «The hands that built America» degli U2 (dalla colonna sonora del grande sconfitto «Gangs of New York» di Scorsese) o «Father and Daughter» di Paul Simon (da «The wild Thornberry's movie»). Alla cerimonia tuttavia Eminem non si è neppure presentato: la statuetta è stata ritirata da Luis Resto, uno dei co-autori del pezzo, che l'ha ricevuta dalle mani di Barbra Streisand. «E' un artista estremamente creativo - ha detto Resto del suo collega-. E' come se in testa gli suonassero continuamente delle autentiche sinfonie. In più è un uomo buono, di gran cuore». Parole che contrastano non poco con l'immagine pubblica che il rapper di Detroit ha voluto accreditare di sè nel corso degli anni, sia con i suoi atteggiamenti che con i contenuti delle sue canzoni: ma non sono le uniche spese in suo favore da chi ha avuto occasione di conoscerlo bene. Sia Curtis Hanson che Kim Basinger, rispettivamente regista e protagonista di «8 Mile», hanno speso ad esempio apprezzamenti più che lusinghieri per questo controverso ragazzotto che ha conquistato il trono del pop mondiale travalicando, nei suoi testi e nei suoi video, tutti le convenzioni dell'oltraggio, spingendo senza remore l'accelleratore su contenuti di violenza, omofobia, razzismo, sessismo e chi più ne ha più ne metta. Leggere attentamente i suoi testi può essere ancora oggi un'esperienza sconcertante: eppure è proprio alimentando questa dura poetica da strada, che spesso lo ha costretto a lavare in pubblico i panni sporchi delle sue vicende personali, che Eminem è diventato un autentico Re Mida dell'industria musicale americana. «The Eminem Show», il suo terzo album, è stato il cd più venduto in America in tutto il 2002, ed unito al soundtrack di «8 Mile» ha fatto totalizzare al suo autore oltre 10 milioni di copie vendute in soli 12 mesi e sul solo mercato statunitense; nel frattempo «8 Mile», del quale è da poco uscito in America il Dvd con sequenze inedite, è stato un trionfo al box office, incassando 116 milioni di dollari solo negli Usa. L'ultimo colpaccio? Si chiama 50 Cent, un nuovo rapper nero di cui Eminem ha prodotto l'album di debutto «Get rich or die tryin» insieme all'onnipresente Dr Dre. Risultato: un altro trionfo. 50 Cent, 26enne di New York dal passato quantomeno inquietante, che nel libretto del cd si fa fotografare armato, è primo da numerose settimane sia nella classifica degli album che in quella dei singoli (con il brano «In da club»). Un nuovo idolo preso dai ghetti, un nuovo caso preoccupante per i sociologi, una dimostrazione di come Eminem sia oggi in condizione di trasformare in oro tutto ciò che sfiora. Dove arriverà, di questo passo?
	28 marzo: Aggiornamento box office. 8 Mile di Eminem rimane al comando della classifica dei film più visti nel week-end il botteghino, e si aggiudica anche la più alta media di incassi per sala. La Finestra Di Fronte di Ferzan Ozpetek rimane in seconda posizione mentre Io Non Ho Paura, di Gabriele Salvatores sale dal quinto al terzo posto. Buon l'esordio per The Life Of David Gale, con Kevin Spacey, film contro la pena capitale.
