San Diego is California's oldest city, dating back to the founding of the first mission by Father Junipero Serra of the Franciscan order in 1769. The harbour was discovered in 1542 by Rodriguez Cabrillo, a Portuguese explorer sailing for Spain, whose monument stands at the end of Point Loma. San Diego is a lovely and sunny place, full of attractive spots.

In November 2001, I spent a week in San Diego to attend the Society for Neuroscience Meeting, which took place at the Convention Center, the largest of this kind on the West Coast. And it was entirely needed, as, undauted by slashed budgets or security concerns, 28,500 attendees swarmed in on the place. During my staying in San Diego, I was so lucky to enjoy the company of my web friend Peggy, who lives there. These pictures are among the best souvenirs of that trip.
