Insecta, Lepidoptera, Geometridae, Triphosa dubitata (Linnč, 1758) - It is a butterfly frequent on the wall of the caves that, together to the troglophile grasshoppers (Dolichopoda) and several species of insects, form that whole of organisms that spend the daytime in the hypogean environment and get out in the night to search food. These butterflies generally winter in the caves where find the environmental factots suited for survive to the rigours of the cold season. Triphosa dubitata is a species widespread in the cavities of all Europe and northern Asia. In Piemonte the author observed it also in cold cavities at altitude of 2000 m above the sea level. Frequently it live together to Triphosa sabaudiata, with similar size, but lighter colors and less clear ornaments. These butterfly can be define "subtroglophile" and stay usually in the zone of the caves near the entrance, where the light is absent and the humidity and tenperature are already remarkable uniform. (Wingspan: about 4 cm).
