Limestone of the Molare formation |
Cave situated in the Alessandria province, near Acqui Terme. It has been formed by a stream with modest flow that has dig a bed in a limestone layer with smallest thickness. The main branch is practicable with difficulty; few metres from the entrance opens, by the right side, a secondary tunnel, the "Little Basins Branch"
where slowly flows a little affluent that forms a series of terraced rimstone dams. The author visited this cavity some times in 1992 and also in the following years. Already during the first visit the author picked up specimens of a until today indetermined Planaria
, little Amphipoda crayfish determined as Niphargus gr. stygius by Fabio Stoch of Trieste and a shell of Oxychilus of which has been found afterwards only another specimen by Marco Bodon of Genova. Moreover, a Polydesmidae Diplopoda, Polydesmus sp. and a Isopoda Trichoniscidae Crustacean certainly unpublished. All this finds concern mainly the Little Basin Branch.Althoug concern the insects, the author picked up a cricket, probably Petaloptila
or Gryllomorpha near the entrance and rare specimens of Bathysciola cfr. pumilio in the fossil part of the Little Basins Branch.BIBLIOGRAPHY |
