Arachnida, Opiliones, Ischyropsalidae, Ischyropsalis sp. - It is an eutroglophile opilion that shows a more specialized habitus than the other species of the Piemonte since both the legs and the body are depigmented; the pincers too, that usually in the genus Ischyropsalis are black, in this species are without pigment and only their apex remains black. The author discovered this new species in 1999 in a cavity of the high Maira Valley, the "Buco della Lausiera" Cave, a cold cavity at 1800 m of height above sea level; this is one of the more southern stations for this genus in Piemonte; in the same year (1999) the author found an adult specimen with similar habitus in the "Balmoura" Cave, on the watershed between the Maira and the Grana Valleys, that is therefore the more southern station of the genus in the piemontese region. Other young specimens have been found by the author in a more northern station on the watershed between the Maira and the Varaita Valleys, in the cave "Tana dell'Orso" (Lair of the Bear) at a height of 2400 m above the sea level. With this last discoveries, the author has outlined an almost complete picture of the geographical distribution of the genus Ischyropsalis on the piemontese territory. (Real size of the body: 4-5 mm; legspan: about 4-5 cm).
