THE REV. A. C. DURHAM

 

A large and representative congregation assembled at St. Michael's Church, Swanmore, on Saturday morning for the funeral service of the Vicar of the parish, the Rev. Alexander Charles DURHAM, M.A., whose death was recorded last week.

 

On Friday evening the coffin was received in the church by the Rev. L. N. St. ALPHONSE (vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Ryde), and Vespers of the Dead were said.  On Saturday morning at eight o'clock there was a requiem Mass and Absolution of the Dead.

 

The Bishop of Portsmouth (the Rt. Rev. W. L. ANDERSON) took part in the funeral service, which was conducted by the Rev. L. N. ALPHONSE, assisted by the  Rev. F. H. ROLPH.  The Rev. S. J. CORNISH was Bishop's chaplain.

 

The choir led the singing of the hymns “Jesus Lives” and “They come, God's messengers of love,” and the chanting of the 90th Psalm.  Mr. W. L. REED was organist.
