Biography

Vittorio Lavezzari was born in Genoa in 1864, orphaned at the age of fourteen, wanting to make a career of the captain and ship-owner father, he sailed as a deckhand on a brig and reached Pensacola in Florida.
After many adventures and in the Atlantic adventures returned to Genoa. Finally he abandoned the sea to devote himself entirely to art to which he felt deeply attracted.
He made his studies at the Ligurian Academy of Fine Arts of Genoa and later became a professor (he was named academic of merit in 1894 and remained there until 1938 when he died).
 Expert modeler was a pupil of Scanzi, worked at Carpaneto tomb, and we can truly say that he has honored the illustrious master because his work is always inspired by the noblest ideas with artistic interpretations and refined executions.
He completed his studies in Rome and then in Florence, where he stayed for a few years between 1880 and 1890.
It was oriented initially (1885 -1890) in the direction of realist and later (1890-1930) in the field of Symbolist-liberty.
Present at the Promoter Genovese since 1883 (exposes a portrait of Rossini) is oriented in recent years towards verismo with a progressive accentuation of social issues.
Among the works of this period are reminiscent of My poor father! (1889), Pescatorino (1892), reproduced as prizes for competitions of the Promoter: a work of notable success was also presented at the Universal Exhibition of 1893 Chigago.

He received important awards and participated in numerous international exhibitions (Vienna, Monaco, Paris, London), created important works for Brazil, Argentina and Russia.
His production was very abundant but no less appreciated as witnessed by many of his works that can be seen not only at the Staglieno Monumental Cemetery.
In the cathedral of San Lorenzoin Genova is exposed bust of Cardinal Gaetano Alimonda, it is present in the collections of the GAM (Modern Art Gallery) of Genoa in the list of documented artists. The Accademia museum in Genoa Ligurian is the bust of Raffaele Granara marble.
It was part of the artistic family Genovese and was friends with the painters Andrea Figari, Lazarus Luxardo, Meineri Guido, Giuseppe Pennasilico, Cesare Viazzi, Angelo Costa and with the sculptors Pietro Albino Lorenzo Orengo and with whom he shared the spirit of renewal that it characterizes the art world in the late 800 and early 900.
He died in Genoa in 1938
 

War Memorial Genoa Voltri

The war memorial of Genoa Voltri, carried out by Professor. Vittorio Lavezzari, was inaugurated in 1925 and was dissenatamente time by the fascist regime to obtain military equipment during the 2nd World War.
In the late Art Nouveau style, fully grasped the essence of the heroism of the war dead and honored them with dignity, transmitting at first glance those feelings that only an artwork can give, was the pride and pride of the citizens.
