Enclosure construction #2

The internal part should be painted with damping paint. In italian it is called "antirombo", I don't know exactly in english (antinoise?), but this paint is used on bottom parts of cars, I hope you understand.

Vent panel (the part not painted in photo) is fixed with screw, so it would be possible to change lenght of the vent in a easy way, to try different Fb frequency during listening sessions.
Rear panel is fixed also with screw, Altec 416 must be mounted from inside. In the rear panel is necessary to work a slot of about 2mm depth for inserting...
... the gasket in neoprene, thickness 5mm, to ensure a box perfectly tight (except the vent, of course).
Mount rear panels and make holes for screws. I used M6x50 screws, so make holes 6mm diameters. I think no necessary to say that holes should be external to the gasket.
In the holes on the box insert M6 nuts for wood. So you will be able to mount and dismount rear panel withoud damaging the MDF. After that, insert ALTEC 416 (they should fit exactly inside the box), check perfect allignment in his position (hole diameter 355mm in the front panel) and make the 8 holes for mounting screws.
Insert M6 nuts for wood inside the eight holes . Holes are near the edge, so be very careful, do not crack the MDF.
Mount ALTEC 416 and fix accurately with all 8 screws.
It's time to insert the insulation. I used expanded polyurethane slabs 30mm thickness, available from Brico Center. Do not use rockwool or glasswool: it is a vented enclosure!
I fixed top, front and sides panels with thermoglue.

Before finishing with insulation remember wiring the Altec 416.
Filling completely the internal should give an apparent volume of 130 liters. As shown in photo, it is easy anyway to remove some insulation. So, during listening tests you will be able to chenge the low bass response of the system.
Finally, it's time to close!
Make measurements and start developing crossover, that for the moment you can mount externally, near 511 horns, so it would be easy to change and modify.
After some days of listening test, when you understand that your audiophile life is definitively changed, you have to convince your wife that those big boxes are not so bad in the living room. I already decided that I want them white, to better integrate in the room. You can bring them to a carpenter for professional painting or veneering, but I don't like, it is not a solution for a real DIYer. So I bring to my art-garage and paint with acrylic white colour, four hands slowly applied with hand roller. The result was very very good, with a wonderful "orange peel" white surface...
...perfect!
And here VISO 4-8-5 in my living room. The result is very good also whit everything turn off. And when you turn on the Music...
Finish? No, a lot of work still to do, starting with Measurements
