Mounting my eTrex

The finished package looks like this, from the back:

The plate is made from stiff alloy and is a short T shape, with the "wings" made into aerofoil shapes to fit better on my base bar:

The impact foam is nice an squishy so it helps mould the shape better, and helps stopping slipping. The two wings are bound on with two small velco straps (non-elastic, the foam is spongy enough). Note the locking washer under the nut.

In the middle of the back plate is just enough room to fit two V-headed bolts - you have to carve away the plastic a bit to countersink them. The bolts need to be carefully positioned so they don't rub up against the base bar. Here I only use one (I used two when fitting to a previous plate mount) because then the plate swings round for easy opening and closing of the battery compartment.

Surprisingly this seems all stable enough in flight. In case of an accident it will probably break off easily, but I'm not sure that's a bad thing. If I think it needs to be more stable, I can add the 2nd bolt.
