Transportation Infrastructures

Mobility is coming to be an anthropological constant of our way of life: decisions about where to live, where to work and where to study produce a request for mobility, also related to cultural needs and particularly to the free time. These necessities are related both to the economic growth and the "social role play" in the Society.

The economic growth is also closely linked to the freight transportation: due to factors as "lean production, just in time, outsourcing", a large demand of freight mobility has grown and keeps growing. The implications for the profession of transportation engineers are also clear: the responsibility to advise Authorities in the identification of the solution of the mobility problems belongs to them.

This page represents the first step to build a referring point for the people working and studying in the field of transportation infrastructures. Due to the large fragmentation of documents, studies and organizations in the Net, the next step will be a division in sub-sections (like the present Trains & Railways), with articles and publications. The Civil Engineering section at the moment starts as a related general site and is expected to be increased in the future.

Feel free to send your comments/suggestions and don’t forget to get a look to the Italian High Speed Railway Project!
