The implementation of the Italian high speed rail network, consists in a Po valley axis from Turin to Venice, in a central ridge from Milan to Naples and a link between Genoa and Milan, all interlinked with the existing national network.
The network will have innovative systems for the management of train circulation, with the introduction of advanced and integrated criteria for line, plant and material maintenance.
At the moment the Rome-Florence section already exists (and will be upgraded to the standards of the new sections), the Rome-Naples and the Bologna-Florence sections are under constructionand the Turin Milan section is inthe detailed design phase, like the Milan-Bologna section.
The East-West Corridor runs upon the Po valley axis and is composed by three sections:
At he moment only the Turin-Milan section is in advanced phase of the detailed design: the section will have a length of 127 kilometers, with 18.4 km of viaducts and 3.3 km of tunnels.
The North-South Corridor is the most advanced in the H-S program and is composed by four sections:
Section | Length (Km) | Viaducts (Km) | Tunnels (Km) | Status |
---|---|---|---|---|
Milan-Bologna | 199 | 22.7 | 3.6 | Design in progress |
Bologna-Florence | 76.7 | 3.6 | 66.9 | Under Construction |
Florence-Rome | 239 | 31 | 77 | Existing |
Rome-Naples | 220 | 40 | 37 | Under Construction |
