unmountable boot volume/primary hard disk not foun
my computer was on in the morning and out of no where a blue screen reading "unmountable boot volume" popped up. i tried rebooting, but the same screen appeared over and over. i put in my windows xp home edition disk,

in the past, i get a compaq screen, then a windows loading screen, which is then followed by the blue screen of the unmountable boot volume problem. booting with the xp cd gives me the recovery console and i can then get a command

and grab a copy of memtest. you want either the .iso (bootable cd image file) or the one that creates a bootable floppy. boot from either and run memtest for some hours. let's see if you get errors. to burn an .iso file, you need to use

i have incurred the somewhat ubiquitous "unmountable boot volume" blue screen on my pc. since i am unable to log into safe mode, i attempted to boot the windows xp install cd so that i could access the recovery console. unfortunately,
