Arthropoda, Insecta, Lepidoptera

Insecta, Lepidoptera, Geometridae, Triphosa sabaudiata (Duponchel, 1840) - Subtroglophile butterfly belonging typically to the wall association, that whole of organisms (generally Arthropods) that spend the day hours and winter on the walls of the caves in the zones near to the entrance. With respect to Triphosa dubitata, it has a livery with less clear ornaments and lighter color (silvery gray). Besides, this species is relatively rarer than T. dubitata and his distribution area is limited to central Europe and Asia. In Piemonte the author observed this butterfly until 1800 m of altitude above the sea level (also if normally it lives at lower quotas). Frequently some specimens are alighted one near another or curiously aligned. (Wingspan: about 4-4,5 cm).
