The Arts

 1. The title of "filosofe" is bestowed by the Arvarii of Adamantia upon anybody that lives according to their principles, not only upon those that study them. They do therefore call philosophers artists and scholars, illuminated leaders and even some that grow plants and breed animals.

 2. Those that excel as "filosofi" gain the title of "mastro", which is the highest honour an Arvarian can aspire to. The fields that lead man to excellence are, according to the philosophers, practising the two principles of the human mind, "Arte" (creativity) and "Ingegno" (which could be broadly translated as technique). Activities that involve only one of these principles are considered unbalanced, and therefore negative. As a consequence, mathematics are shunned, but most forms of art are given strict and complicated sets of rules, which are often strictly mathematical in nature.

 3. Three arts are considered perfectly balanced, and therefore are held in highest esteem: these are architecture (which is based on the Rules of Force and Counterforce), music (which is based on the Principle of Duality) and rhetoric (which is based on the Idea of Self-Folding). These arts are conceived in a broad sense, so that architecture includes much of sculpture, and both rhetoric and music contain much of poetry.

 4. The Arvarian etiquette is built according to these principles so that the relationship between lovers (which is considered an art) is balanced by complex rules concerning the relationship with other people. A man is therefore judged first of all by his manners.

The Indifference

 5. balancing the two principles is supposed to impart the virtue of "Ignavia", indifference to the world, its evil and its illusions, not only in a moral or psychological sense, but also in a physical one, as it would protect them from misfortune and harm, and give them a healthier and longer life.
