PROGETTI
A PROPOSAL FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL SUPPORTING
M C D SPOSNSORSHIP PROJECT
BISHOP'S HOUSE, MYMENSINGH
BANGLADESH
1 |
Name of the School: Biroidakuni Primary School |
2 |
Date of establishment: 1926 |
3 |
Aims and objectives:
a) to literate the disadvantage tribal children
b) to teach religious rituals
c) to uplift socio-economic development |
4 |
Background of
the school: Biroidakuni
Primary School was established in 1926 by the Missionaries. The
school is adjacent to the Biroidakuni St. Elezabeth Catholic
Church. Biroidakuni is situated to the northern part of Mymensingh
district near Indian boarder. There are about 13,000 thousand
Catholics in this Parish.
There is no school around 4 km of this school. Most of the students
are tribal Christians. The school is run and supervised by Parish
under Mymensingh Catholic Diocese. Since most of the villagers
are tribal Christians, they are deprived of government educational
facilities. Indigenous people being secluded from the national
mainstream hardly can avail government educational facilities.
Due to language and cultural barriers tribal children cannot
attend and compete with the Bengali children. Moreover they are
looked upon by the Bengalis get tease by them. Therefore, the
existence of this school is essential in order to uplift socio-economic
and spiritual development of the tribal children. |

Need analysis: For last 12/15 years Biroidakuni Primary
School was supported by World Vision of Bangladesh an NGO. They
supported for teachers salary, supplied books, Office Register
books, chalks and other necessary materials. At present World
Vision have changed their policy as a result they do not support
any more for educational purposes for Mymensingh Diocese. Recently
we have started in the school to take tuition fees from the students
as follows: KG & Class I = Tk. 2, Classes II & III =
Tk. 3, and Classes = IV & V = Tk. 5 per month. The Garo people
are very poor and they live hand to mouth so many families can
not pay the said tuition fees also. Whatever the tuition fees
we get from the School is not enough to pay 3-4 teachers. The
School has 7 teachers so it is not possible to meet the teachers'
salary from tuition fees.
In comparison with other schools Biroidakuni Primary School is
the best one. The teacher staff are efficient, the school building
is good. It is two storyed building. At present there are 364
students in this school. Although the school building and teacher
staff are good but we are unable to maintain all the expenses
for running the school. Therefore your supporting is very much
needed to run the school. We will appreciate highly if you come
forward with your kind support for this school. |

Evaluation and
supervision: In the School
we have examinations three times a year. The school inspector
supervises the school at least once in a month. Moreover the
members of the school Managing Committee visits the school regularly. |
9 |
School Managing
Committee: The school
Managing Committee consists of 7 members. The committee members
have their meetings once a month and discuss the activities and
the progress of the school. The committee members also take initiative
to visit the houses of the students and encourage them to come
to school regularly. |
10 |
Sports and games: The teachers arrange the annual sports.
The students perform dances, songs and other competitions. The
children also participate in other development programs as well
as afforestration program. |
11 |
Training: The teachers of this School are well
trained both in formal and non-formal education. They also received
training on preventive health care, nutrition, sanitation, safe
drinking water and simple accounting etc. |
12 |
Conclusion: The children especially Bangladeshi
tribal children are helpless, disadvantaged and backward. Without
support from friends and donors their existence, their traditional
heritage will be extinct with no time. We have to take care of
the children of such underprivileged people so that the kingdom
of God could be established through education especially by preaching
the word of God in them. Education is the only means that makes
the human being conscious about their socio-economic and spiritual
status, which initiates a person to take action against the negative
elements of the reality. Considering of all these your supporting
is very badly needed to sustain the education program. |
