Mutant Reviewers From Hell: 10 Things I Hate About You

  • . Dammit! Shakespeare certainly knew his stuff when it came to story telling, and idea-strapped Hollywood types know their stuff when they rip off Shakespeare’s stuff
  • . When remaking the old plays in their original setting became increasingly dull and only for english majors and theater brats looking to impress whoever they were sitting next to, Hollywood went on to recast Shakespeare in the modern (or near-modern) setting
  • . I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a credible version of Taming of the Shrew, but it takes a brilliant Shakespearean plot and makes it into an okay Hollywood movie
  • . The guys have some witty lines but make their share of mistakes, the girls are attractive while still looking like high school students (note to Hollywood: contrary to your belief, most of the girls I knew in school didn’t have breast implants), and come on, who hasn’t been on the wrong end of a testicle retrieval operation or two in their time? (Look, I SAID I was sorry, okay?) It’s not a perfect translation – Kat actually isn’t bitchy enough, believe it or not, and some of the complex wooing schemes from the play are simplified – but to my mind, the purpose of a retelling is to maintain the spirit of the source material while making it relevant to the intended audience

    All-Reviews.com - Good Burger
  • . Steven Jordan's candy-colored design for Mondo Burger is exactly how Disney might redesign a Planet Hollywood to bulk it up and make it more playful

Warner Independent Pictures - Good Night, And Good Luck
  • . Murrow) David Strathairn attended Williams College before launching a successful acting career and has appeared in many of his Williams College classmate John Sayles' features, including "Matewan, " "Eight Men Out" and "Passion Fish." He has also worked with some of Hollywood's top directors including Mike Nichols' "Silkwood, " Stephen Gyllenhaal's "Losing Isaiah, " Sydney Pollack's "The Firm, " Tim Robbins' "Bob Roberts, " Penny Marshall's "A League of Their Own, " Taylor Hackford's "Dolores Claiborne, " Curtis Hanson's "LA Confidential" and Philip Kaufman's "Twisted" to name just a few
  • . Burke followed this with a supporting part in the Oscar-nominated "Rambling Rose" and the starring role, replacing Peter Weller, as the cyborg law enforcer in "Robocop 3." Burke alternated between independent movies and Hollywood projects
  • . In this role Reeves had overseen the scheduling of jazz programming and educational workshops at both the Hollywood Bowl and the Walt Disney Concert Hall

The Z Review: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  • . Thursday 14th August 2003: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Update: Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith, the producer and director behind the big budget Hollywood remake of Douglas Adams HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO = THE GALAXY will appear tonight at the Edinburgh International Film Festival to discuss what makes a music video funny.Working under the name HAMMER & TONGS, Jennings and Goldsmith have produced over 200 pop videos and commercials including Blur Coffee & TV promo featuring an animated milk carton, and Fatboy Slims Right Here, Right Now
  • . It is to be produced by Hollywood production company Spyglass Films from a script originally written by the book's author, Douglas Adams, who died in 2001

Future Movies: The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy
  • . And it’s great – a quirky British sci-fi-comedy with Hollywood production values

The Village Voice: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  • . (Adams had recently completed a second draft of the screenplay at the time of his death.) Pinballing around the universe with rumpled Englishman Arthur Dent (Martin Freeman, a/k/a Tim from The Office ), the movie is amiable and eager to please, but its puppyish energies still rack up Hollywood overkill
  • . But Hollywood is always a stickler for the narrative arc and here pours on the treacle-thick glue of the thwarted love interest, though Arthur's sad-sack pinings for Trillian are altogether less compelling than his galaxy quest for a nice cup of tea

WWWF Grudge Match: Crocodile Hunter vs. Jurassic Park
  • . On the other hand, if this is the hollywood version, Steve & Terri make it back to within shouting distance of the helipad only to see the helicopter take off without them and the two kids, panicky accountant, and ex-military head of security they have found on the island, at which point they make their way toward the dock (where there is a convenient seaplane that is fully fueled and remarkably untouched by the fires raging around the docking facilities)
  • . Without writers, all Hollywood would have is a pack of producers telling each other what terrific story ideas they have
  • . Maybe we shouldn't be respecting those Hollywood writers after all
  • . Hollywood hasn't let animals die in I don't know how long...probably not since Bambi's mom and Old Yeller
  • . Even if the Hollywood rules concerning kids and animals were to be magically suspended in this instance, this dog has survived every one of Steve's adventures so far

WWWF Grudge Match: Mad Max vs. Snake Plissken
  • . Besides, Mad Max was an Australian production and, to quote from my favourite song: "Burn, Hollywood, burn
  • . BURN! HOLLYWOOD, BURN! " - Socrates ---" Take down Tinseltown! Burn down to the ground! "- Leftfield One must judge a warrior's ability by the quality of his foes
  • . Sure Snake can take on people who look like rejects from West Hollywood and a Castro impersonator, but he has never faced aussies

WWWF Grudge Match: Headless Horseman vs. T-800 Terminator

  • . Hollywood execs are driven by dollar signs, and even though Cameron proved himself as a heavyweight with Titanic, I think they'd be wary of movie-goers shying away from his films like hot women from a Star Trek convention
  • . How do you think War, Pestilence, Famine and Death feel about this Headless dude stealing all their Horseman thunder, huh? Where's THEIR big-time Hollywood action movie? How come THEY'RE getting the short end of the stick? I mean c'mon..

    Jerry at the Movies
  • . Now comes the special edition of this special trilogy of movies and, despite some flaws with the post-tinkering, they are a fond reminder of how groundbreaking these movies were and how they changed Hollywood forever
  • . The original "Star Wars" was a major box-office success signaling the rise of merchandising and the wave of Hollywood blockbusters to come

The Phantom Menace: A Response to Critics
  • . Louis Menand's thesis is that in the original Star Wars series the relationship between Luke and Han "make those first three movies essentially what Hollywood calls 'buddy pictures'." This is nonsense
  • . In his eagerness to dismiss Star Wars as "entertainment for eight-year-old boys, " and little more than a license to print money for George Lucas, Menand applies a Hollywood cookie-cutter ("buddy movies") and overlooks the powerful, consistent theme of all four movies
  • . And, of course, there were many such comic relief characters, with accents, who were racial or ethnic minorities, based on stereotypes, in old Hollywood movies
  • . However, there were also many white actors who played comic relief side-kicks, often with odd ways of speaking, in old Hollywood movies -- like Gabby Hayes (1885-1969) -- or new ones -- like a character ("Farmer Fran") in the recent The WaterBoy , whose Cajun dialect was so strong that nothing he ever said was intelligible
  • . The moral perversity, viciousness, and stupidity of the latter is rarely exposed in Hollywood movies or television, while the "greedy" businessman turns up as the villain in a wildly disproportional number of stories

    Screen Memories
  • . Independence Day has become something of a phenomenon in America, eclipsing Hollywood in much the same way as its gargantuan flying saucers do in the film
  • . The Flying Saucer was actually viewed by the FBI before its release, and rumours of government involvement were spread about The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), some even taking it so far as to say the film was written by FBI or CIA agents in Hollywood
  • . But not too close; paranoia had firmly established itself as the dominant form of politics in Washington, and Senator Joseph McCarthy and the House Committee on Un-American Activities had already drawn up a blacklist of suspected Communist sympathisers within the Hollywood entertainment industry, causing nervous people in the community to produce "Red Channels", a list of suspected subversives within their ranks

    SFcrowsnest.com Movie Reviews
  • . Somehow, it would be quite repetitive to beat the same old drum about Hollywood's insistence on revisiting favourable blasts from the past, says Frank
  • . Aleta Vinas reports from the Hollywood premiere of the science fiction movie Serenity

    Film Rotation
  • . Anderson gave the keynote speech at this week's Hollywood and Games Summit where he supposedly killed with his wit, though it is still sad he was the best they could get for a presentation called " How to Successfully Blend Game and Film "
  • . Enjoy! | June 27, 2006 | ATB = THE HILLS HAVE EYES UNCUT EDITION DVD Review (R2) Hollywood really does seem to be a bit of a barren place at the moment for fans of horror
  • . Night Shyamalan has put the full force of his A-List director status behind a new expose on the increasingly desperate situation between 'the Suits' and 'the Talent' in boardrooms across Hollywood
