IN QUIBUS MEMBRIS CORPORIS HUMANI SACRA RELIGIO

In quibus membris corporis
humani sacra religio,
performance & film 16 mm, 1973
Performance by VIOLA
at the Galleria Pilota, Milan

To draw and to de-signate the tortuous and restless surface of the body, indicating places, drawing the borders of unknown anatomical regions, eblematic points of coincidence, of silent irradiations, inscribing a new sense on the sensitive world.
The tattoo, the body and the gesture mingle in an ancient rite, following the rhythm and the cadences of a voice buried in a remote past.

The body is the arranged chiasmus of gesture and word which will inflame for a moment the feverish presence and the meaningful power of this fundamental unity, the body, which precedes every rational category of relationship with other people and with the world; confirming the words of Merleau-Ponty: " the body cannot be compared with a physical object but rather with a work of art". (S. Viani)
