Software Review - Description

FrontPage Express is part of the Windows OS. It's a mediocre HTML editor.

Software Review - Pros

It's free, as it comes bundled with Windows. It allows you to build fairly complex tables, insert and position graphics, etc.

Software Review - Cons

It's never heard of cascading style sheets, of course. Or of javascript, for that matter. Or of server-side includes. Or of active server pages. Or of cgi. Or... (you name it) ;-(
Plus - you'll enjoy this one! - it reportedly messes up the correct sequence of your TITLE and META tags, confusing some search engines. So, in essence, it's a very specific "tool", targeted strictly at lamers: it lets them harmlessly indulge in building some sort of colorful, blinking, marqueeing home page, which will never really encumber the www, since it will never, I repeat, never get indexed by the search engines. A really clever one, Microsoft! Provide everything to everyone (and let them pay for the pleasure) - they won't be able to use it anyway, huh?

User Report - Tips, Tricks and Tweaks

Purge your META tags; and, in particular, remove at once the META tag that says Made with FrontPage Express or something like that - it's the built-in lamer trademark that immediately gives you away to anyone knowing how to display the source code of your page (which is to say just about everybody with a brain)! Beware though! The tag will magically reappear the very first time you edit the file with FrontPage Express again! Oh, you're so clever, Mc$oft!
If you want a real HTML tool, use Notepad, even MS Word, anything! Or, seriously, try a WYSIWYG HTML editor such as Macromedia DreamWeaver.
