Nei primi sei mesi del 2001 diminuiscono le opposizioni. alla donazione di organi l'Italia supera le medie europee nel numero dei donatori, collocandosi al secondo posto tra i Paesi europei davanti alla Francia, alla Germania e al Regno Unito.

Meglio del nostro Paese ha fatto solo la Spagna

In base ai dati del Centro Nazionale per i Trapianti da gennaio ad oggi il numero di donazioni e' in aumento. Al 31 Maggio 2001 vi sono stati 430 donatori (pari a 17,9 per milione di persone) contro i 373 (pari a 15,5 pmp) dello stesso periodo dello scorso anno. Per la prima volta le donazioni in Italia superano la media dei paesi dell'Unione Europea, pari nel 2000 a 16,5 donatori pmp.

Significativi i livelli di donazione nell'aria AIRT, comprendente le Regioni Toscana, Emilia Romagna, Piemonte; Puglia, Valle d'Aosta e la Provincia Autonoma di Bolzano (17 milioni di persone) che. raggiunge un livello di 28 donazioni pmp, tra i migliori a livello europeo secondo solo alle aree spagnole.

Tra le regioni afferenti, spiccano i dati relativi alla Toscana (38 donatori pmp) ed l 'Emilia Romagna (33 donatori prnp).

Nel Sud, rilevante il dato della Sicilia, ultima regione italiana nel 2000, che rispetto ai primi mesi dell'anno precedente ha triplicato l'attività, raggiungendo 6,1 donazioni per milione e avvicinandosi alla media dell'area Centro Sud (8,6 pmp ).

Diminuiscono progressivamente anche le opposizioni al prelievo, il rifiuto cioè a donare gli organi espresso dal potenziale donatore in vita o dai suoi famigliari al momento della donazione. La lettura dei dati conferma la crescente consapevolezza degli Italiani di fronte a questo delicato tema, raggiunta grazie all'impegno del Ministero, delle Regioni, della rete dei Centri di Riferimento, delle associazioni dei pazienti e del volontariato.

Nel solo mese di Maggio hanno registrato la propria dichiarazione di volontà presso l'ASL di d'appartenenza 3.253 persone, di Cui il 71,9% si sono espresse a favore e del 28% contro.

Un aumento significativo se si considera che dal luglio 2000 ad aprile 2001 il totale delle registrazioni era di appena 5.071.
