John Loughran (Saxophone). John started playing
tenor saxophone in college as a business student, and during his stay
played B flat clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone and baritone
horn in various groups at Central Connecticut State University
including Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Pep band, and the Blue
Devils Marching Band.
He has played in the pit orchestra
for “Merrily We Roll Along” as well as other musicals, and has
continued playing in various community bands over the years, last
year joining the Plainville Jazz band and Wind Ensemble. He has been
a member since 1999 of the Capitol Symphonic Winds which is
affiliated with the Hartt School of Music playing B flat clarinet,
and baritone saxophone for the last three years.
He began branching out last year
playing his B flat bass saxophone at a local traditional and
Dixieland jazz camp and performed at the Connecticut Jazz Festival
with the other adult campers on opening day. John began studying
improvisational jazz and music theory this year with Tom Savage of
the Savage Brothers Band and has had the privilege to fill in on
tenor and baritone saxophone with the Flamingos big band and the
United Technologies Screaming Eagles Jazz Band.
