CONTROL LINE CONFRATERNITY

We are a small group of Control Line fans in the province of Lecce (Italy).  We come from different areas of aeromodelling (R/C, Static display, Freeflight), but we have returned again to the speciality that provides that "DIRECT CONNECTION" sensation with one's flying machine: this sensation is so dear to us, it make us leave out the charming (almost taken for granted) technological sophistication of modern radiocontrolled aircraft.

People that think our hobby is childish play are wrong. It's not difficult to learn to fly U-Control airplanes, but the achievement of subsequent goals in the different specialities, needs a high level of technical and psycho-motory ability. And the flight altitude is always VERY CLOSE to Mother Earth (who can sometimes be very unforgiving)!!!

We are many, spread through all regions of the globe, from the Arctic tundra to the Hawaian beaches. What unites us is that fraternity feeling, derived from the same passions and sensations. These passions and sensations, are far removed from the customs and attitudes dictated by a sophisticated global market, that would give much more importance to appearance, than to being. We will continue to fly our models on the strings. We are sure that attached to the handle, we will always find a confrère of like minded individuals, people who share our emotions, understand our enthusiasm, and listen our stories.

Our history is made of ordinary men that have done great things. In the telling, the history of Control Line flight becomes an epic story; like the unforgettable Jim Walker piloting three models at the same time, or Gnesi executing a very complicated flight pattern at 80 mph., or  Still, who, if he finished the flight with the prop not pitted, complained that his inverted flight was too high? We cultivate these memories. Every oldtimer model we build and fly pays a tribute of gratitude to those men, who have humbly helped modern model aeronautics achieve the technological heights of which we are justly proud.

Siamo un piccolo gruppo di appassionati che operano nella provincia di Lecce e che, pur provenendo da esperienze diverse (R/C, statico, Volo Libero), sono tornati a praticare quella specialità che, unica nel campo del modellismo, consente la sensazione di "DIRECT CONNECTION" con la propria macchina volante; sensazione che tanto ci è cara da portarci a tralasciare le pur affascinanti (ed ormai quasi scontate) sofisticazioni tecnologiche dei moderni aerei radiocomandati.

Ma sbaglia chi pensa che il nostro sia un gioco da bambini. Imparare a pilotare gli U-Control non è difficile, ma il raggiungimento di successivi traguardi nelle diverse specialità presuppone una preparazione tecnica e psicomotoria di elevato livello. E la quota di volo è sempre MOLTO VICINA alla madre terra (talora crudele matrigna)!!!

Siamo in tanti, molti di più di quanto possa immaginare chi non ci conosce, sparsi su tutte le regioni del globo, dalla tundra artica alle spiagge hawaiane. Ci unisce quel sentimento di fratellanza che nasce dal condividere sensazioni e passioni che sono molto lontane da mode e atteggiamenti dettati da un sofisticato marketing globale che vorrebbe attribuire più importanza all'apparire che all'essere. Continuiamo a far volare i nostri modelli sugli spaghi, certi che attaccato alla manopola troveremo sempre un confratello dello stesso ordine di pensiero, che condivide le nostre emozioni, che comprende i nostri entusiasmi, che ascolta le nostre storie.

La nostra storia è fatta di piccoli uomini che hanno fatto grandi cose. E raccontandole, la storia del Volo Vincolato si fa epopea: come dimenticare un Jim Walker mentre pilota tre modelli contemporaneamente, o uno Gnesi che esegue un complicatissimo programma acrobatico, dritto e rovescio, intorno ai 150 chilometri orari, o uno Still che, se finisce il volo con l'elica non smozzicata, dice di aver fatto il volo rovescio troppo alto? Noi coltiviamo questi ricordi, ed ogni modello oldtimer che ricostruiamo e portiamo in volo vuole essere un tributo di riconoscenza a quegli uomini che umilmente hanno concesso all'aeromodellismo moderno di raggiungere i vertici tecnologici di cui giustamente siamo fieri.
