I resti fossili di serpente su cui è stata istituita la specie estinta Coluber etruriae PORTIS (1890) (provenienti dal Pleistocene inferiore della località "Il Tasso", Toscana), appartengono molto probabilmente alla specie attuale Coluber (Hierophis) viridiflavus. Poiché l'esatta collocazione tassonomica dei sintipi non può essere dimostrata con certezza, Coluber etruriae può essere considerato un nomen vanum.

The fossil ophidian remains, described as the extinct species Coluber etruriae by PORTIS (1890) from the lower Pleistocene locality "Il Tasso" in Tuscany (Italy), most likely belong to the living European snake Coluber (Hierophis) viridiflavus. Its exact taxonomic allocation, based on the syntypes, cannot be fully demonstrated; owing to that Coluber etruriae is considered a nomen vanum.
