Convert a P900 to a P910u

the "u" stands for "updated"

Disclaimer: i found these info on the net, I'm not the author, so don't blame me if this doesn't works.

Steps:

  1. Get a Cruiser/Fighter at: http://www.microengineers.cc/cruiser/home.php (it costs 79 euro)

  2. Install the software

  3. Go in the support section in the cruiser's home page using: username: cruiser, pass: cruiser and download the THREE files in the P900toP910u folder

  4. Connect the P900

  5. In the Primary Tab make sure that Phone to be attached: option selected says Standard (wait).

  6. Unrar the "Phone" file

  7. Click on Attach to phone. Go to the Flash Tab. Clilck on Flash AVR. Find the file you downloaded and flash it to the phone.
Go back to the Primary Tab and click on Detach phone.

  8. Remove the battery and reinsert it.

  9. Where it says Phone to be attached change it from Standard (wait) to P80x/P90x (PDA-part) This step is important!
Click on Attach to phone. Fighter/Cruiser will attach quickly because the PDA part isn't protected by RSA/Boot Method protection.

  10. Unrar the "Symbian" file. Go to the Flash Tab and click on Flash PDA. Select the Symbian file and flash it to the phone.

  11. Unrar one of the "CDA" file (east emea or italy-swiss). I usually use the East EMEA file. Go to the Flash Tab and click on Flash PDA. Select the file you downloaded and flash it to the phone.

  12. Go to the Primary Tab and click on Detach phone. Power on the phone and enjoy your new P910.

  13. If you aren't satisfied, just download and flash the original, latest P900 firmware.

More info:

  1. The P900 to P910 conversion IS NOT simply flashing the P910 software to the P900, and it IS NOT (and cannot be) performed through the online update service. The firmware files are CUSTOM CREATED from both the P900 and P910 software (bits and pieces merged together). The conversion is 100% unsupported by SE, and is 100% warranty-voiding. SE does not acknowledge the conversion’s existence, and will flat out tell you that the P900 cannot work with a memory card larger than 128MB.

  2. YOU CANNOT convert a P900 to a P910 without either Fighter or Cruiser (both products are developed by Lead). Fighter is a retired product that has been replaced by Cruiser. It is true that Saras' boxes (Twister/UFS-3/N-Box/etc) also have the ability to flash P900 handsets (they are all $250USD+ products), but there aren't any conversion firmware files that work with these products. In other words, you need Fighter or Cruiser to convert a phone. You can download the firmware files all you want, but you won't be able to flash them to your phone without Fighter or Cruiser. If you don't believe me, GO STAND IN THE CORNER.

  3. There are two revisions of the conversion in existence. The first was based on a prototype P910a firmware (look on page 1). It DID NOT enable 850MHz on the handset. This revision is no longer used, and has been replaced with a conversion based on a production P910i firmware. Your phone will continue to use 900/1800/1900MHz no matter what.

  4. Bluetooth headsets work about 5% of the time with a converted phone. I'm sorry, but this is the reality of it all. If you want to use a BT headset with your P900, DO NOT CONVERT IT TO A P910u. I REPEAT. DO NOT CONVERT YOUR PHONE TO A P910 IF YOU WANT TO USE BLUETOOTH HEADSETS. All other Bluetooth functions work fine.

  5. The conversion only works 100% when UK English (o Italiano, se scaricate il file CDA Italy-swiss) is selected (you will have many crashes if you use another language). After I perform a conversion, I format the phone’s internal disk to free up space, and wipe out the other languages (makes sense, doesn't it?). The UK English limitation stretches to every aspect of the phone, including T9 input, character (text) selections, etc. You will not have the "Text Options" menu when composing an SMS or email, so if you cannot deal with a UK English only phone, DO NOT CONVERT IT.

  6. Converting a P900 to a P910 will not improve the camera quality (that is a hardware limitation). AND NO, the conversion will not magically transform the P900's 16MB of internal memory into 64MB (I can't believe this question was even asked).

  7. The reasons for converting your P900 to a P910u:
    - Support for memory cards up to 1GB (and possibly larger)
    - The ability to adjust the screen’s brightness
    - QuickOffice and PDF+ are built into the firmware
    - Enhanced built-in web browser with better support for various websites
    - Enhanced built-in email client that supports RECEIVING (not sending) HTML email
    - The option to remain in your current application when a phone call is received
    - Other enhancements found on the P910i
    - L'interfaccia del telefono aggiornato è completamente in ITALIANO!

  8. Reasons for NOT convert!:
    - Bluetooth headsets aren't supported (but other devices works)
    - You may need to have your phone in UK English :-(
    - People which have a Cruiser asks 40€ for the update, without offering any warranty of working phone :-(

I'm making a detailed list of people who can offer the conversion service in his area. If you want to be added, just email me.
