Real name:
Althea Rae Duhinio Janairo. Some claim that she uses the name Tia because her little sister, Alesaundra, couldn't say Althea, just Tia, but Tia is a well known nickname for Althea and had nothing to do with her sister. Carrere was simply an invention that sounded familiar enough to be recognizable... it had nothing to do with Barbara Carrara as some people say. The name was 'invented' by her manager and boyfriend (until 1985).

He is a producer, and has produced some of her films. I think he is the
reason why Tia has acted in too many B and C ranked films, I do not think
it is good for her career that her husband is producer / comanager.
They divorced in 1999 - she now has a new boyfriend
Family:
Little sister: Alesaundra. Her mother and father are divorced, her mother works for American Savings in Hawaii and her father works for a refrigeration company in Samoa. She says she is planning to have kids, but she is a working woman, and it is hard to get the time when you are an actress.
Music:
She started up as a singer in a local band that played Black Sabbath and AC/DC covers and in a jazz orchestra. Later she sang on the Wayne's world 1 album, and later she released the album DREAM, an OK album that sold to platinum in the Philippines.
She is now working with a brand new album, recorded in her home studio.

The Discovery:
She was shopping in a grocery store in Waikiki (just after high school,
wearing a short skirt) a producer named Mike Greco was producing a movie
called 'Aloha Summer', and thought she was gorgeous for the film. Her
boyfriend had already tried to get her a role in the film, but her her
agent, Kathy Muller, would not send her out for the casting call because
they wanted someone 18 and she was only 17....Mike was unaware that the
labor laws in Hawaii were different than the strict laws of California

The actress:
After a few films, she moved to LA at the age of 17., and landed in a soap opera. Then she was offered to be a member of the tv-series A-team, but the contract she had with the tv-company stopped that.
Waynes World was the big breakthrough, in the role as the Chinese singer. That made her what we call a "megababe" J At the same time she was offered a role in Baywatch, but she refused.. Later she has played in several other films (see the filmography), some of them are really bad, but some are really great, like True Lies with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
CD-rom:
Watch out for Tia Carrere in a CD-ROM game called Deadalus Encounter. Playboy says it's impressive and groundbreaking (not just because of Tia Carrere, mind you) due to production methods that seamlessly blend video and animation. The reviewers especially cringed when a pack of computer-rendered batlike aliens attacked Carrere's neck.
I've played it, and it is not the best designed game, but if you like Tia, she looks mmmmmmmm. Take a look at the pictures-page.
Other projects:
She has produced some films lately, but not with the big breakthrough. And she owns a bar with her former husband, the Irish pub, Dublin's on Sunset. (her favourite restaurant is Cravings)
