INTRODUCTION

We live in times of war [Tempi di Guerra is Italian for ‘times of war’]. If in some parts of the world bombs and armies are shouting it, in other parts it is whispered by the terror of not having enough to survive, of ending up in jail, of being forced to leave one’s land in search of better conditions only to then be exploited and robbed of one’s existence in the same way, but elsewhere.

This elsewhere then is everywhere. But if we are able to recognize the causes and name those who are responsible for this, it can cease to be a hateful and inevitable reality, transmuting into a thousand possibilities for liberation, opening prospects for struggle  and angles of attack. The angles of this bulletin are the concentration camps for immigrants and the mechanism of expulsion. We will try to supply as much material as is possible on everything that contributes to their existence and functioning – the structures and gears, the administrators and collaborationists – keeping in view the world that has generated them.

But Tempi di Guerra doesn’t just want to be a valuable directory of information for recognizing a mechanism with the aim of jamming it; it wants to become a place of encounter between those who will not tolerate the fact that an individual can be confined because s/he doesn’t have the right piece of paper or because s/he isn’t willing to become a slave. It wants to become the place where the many experiences of the refusal of this reality come out from the silence into which they were deliberately forced, and are put into relationships so that they stimulate each other, confront each other and find new ways of expressing the impatience that unites them. This is why we invite all those interested to send us chronicles of struggle, flyers, news, information, even mere press clippings, and anything else that might furnish new cues.

The bulletin will come to life above all from the struggles and stories that it can tell. These depend on you as well as on us.
