Un gruppo di amici squinternati e senza riferimenti trova nella droga l'unica via di fuga da un'esistenza vuota. Solo Mark Renton, interpretato dal bravissimo Ewan McGregor, cerca di prendere le distanze dal mondo di cui fa parte. Tratto dal romanzo omonimo di Irvine Welsh, Trainspotting è diventato un film di culto, catapultando Danny Boyle nell'universo dei più acclamati registi indipendenti della nuova generazione.
