"The Rock" sarebbe la prigione di Alcatraz, chiusa nel 1963 con un record al suo attivo: nessun detenuto è mai riuscito a evadere. Ma in realtà un ex agente inglese (Sean Connery) ci è riuscito, ed è a lui che il governo si rivolge per sventare un attentato terroristico. Egli dovrà far entrare di nascosto un giovane chimico (Nicolas Cage) nella rocca e dovrà aiutarlo a disinnescare le testate al gas nervino di tre missili puntati sulla città. Un bel film di tensione, con una regia adeguata e due interpreti superlativi.
