The town is situated at 26Km from the A3 Napoli-Salerno, with exit at the tollgate of Castellammare di Stabia and proceeding on the national S.S. 145 Sorrentina.

The nearest station is the Circumvesuviana on the Sorrento-Napoli line. There are daily runs to Naples (38 daily runs in summer time and 38 in winter time), to Pompei ruins (38 daily runs in summer time and 38 in winter time) and to the Ercolano ruins (38 in summer time and 38 in winter time).

The town can also be reached by public bus-line of SITA on the Sorrento-Salerno line with runs to Positano (13 daily runs in summer time and 13 runs in winter time), to Amalfi (13 daily runs in summer time and 13 runs in winter time) and to Salerno (12 daily runs in summer time and 12 runs in winter time).

It is possible to get to Sorrento by sea with departures from the dock of Marina Piccola. Connections to Naples should also be provided (38 daily runs in summer time and 14 daily runs in winter time), to Capri (33 daily runs in summer time and 33 runs in winter time), to Ischia (8 runs in summer time and 8 runs in winter time).

BY AIRPLANE

Aeroporto Capodichino (NAP) (Phone: +39 081 7896259), 8 km (5 mi) north of Naples, serves the Campania region. It handles domestic and international flights, including several flights daily between Naples and Rome (flight time 45 minutes).

The major gateways to Italy include Rome's Aeroporto Leonardo da Vinci (FCO) (35 km/20 mi southeast of Rome, Phone: 06 65953640), better known as Fiumicino, and Milan's Aeroporto Malpensa 2000 (MXP) (45 km/28 mi north of Milan, Phone: 02/74852200).

International travelers flying Alitalia to Leonardo da Vinci can go directly from the airport to Naples's Mergellina train station via Alitalia's airport train. Luggage is checked through to Naples, and meals are available on the train. Airport-train arrangements must be made when you buy your plane ticket. The service also operates in the other direction, returning from Naples to Leonardo da Vinci.

Italian Railways Central Station - Piazza Garibaldi Napoli - Linked with the main Italian towns, underground, taxi station and bus lines for the centre of the town. Downstairs you will find the Circumvesuviana Tel. 081/7722444 regional trains for Sorrento Peninsula (about 1 hour journey). Other two important stations of Naples are: Mergellina (at 300 metres from the homonymous pier – underground taxi and bus links) and Campi Flegrei (in Fuorigrotta, on the north outskirts of Naples - taxi, bus and underground links).

BY CAR

Sorrentine Peninsula can be reached from Naples via the [A3] Highway “Salerno-Reggio Calabria”. Stay on this road until you reach the exit for Castellammare di Stabia, wich is on the northern side of the Sorrentine peninsula and is linked to Sorrento by “Statale 145”. When you are on this road follow signs for Sorrento and Positano. You will then reach your final destination. The road is a concrete ribbon that rewards visitors with mountain-meets-sea views at every turn, but driving it, as well as the narrow hairpin roads of the Sorrentine peninsula, can be both a joy and a challenge.

Geographical Information

Sorrento is situated at about 13 miles from Napoli, on the southern side of the Gulf of Naples, between the parallels 40°37’66 and 40°37’79 and the meridians 14°22’07 and 14°22’76 Ikt.
It rises on a tufa ridge just on the sea and extends on a surface of about 9,9 square kilometres. With its17,500 inhabitants it is the most densely populated of the six communes of Sorrento Pensinsula. It is characterised by a mild and temperate climate for most part of the year, but the best period for those who love hot weather and sea life is from May to September
