We have a server running 2003 server and it is mainly going to be used as a file server (for now). Occasionally we would be using terminal services to log onto it. We have 4 staff at the moment, and our LAN is connected to the outside

Alternatively, if you have an old PC that still works but is too low powered for modern use, you could consider one of the many excellent free Linux packages that are designed as gateway router/firewall software.

I would use Routing and Remote Access Service as firewall Configure Basic firewall and also Packet filters on it Also you may use IP filtering (in TCP/IP properties -> Advanced -> Options) IP filtering will have almost 0 memory
