The 1982 Monaco Grand Prix was the first race after Gilles Villeneuve's death. Ferrari payed a tribute to him taking only the Didier Pironi's car for the race. Rene Arnoux (Renault) won the pole position and Riccardo Patrese got the second position with the Brabham - BMW. The third row was formed by Bruno Giacomelli (Alfa Romeo) and Alain Prost (Renault). Arnoux took the lead at the start, Bruno Giacomelli also had a good start and took the second position. Patrese was third and Prost fourth but few time later, Prost passed Patrese and the retirement of Giacomelli gave the second place to the French. At the 15th lap Arnoux spun and prost took the lead but Patrese was becoming very close. The rain started to fall and the things started to change: Rosberg, Daily and Prost had problems due accidents caused by the wet track. Patrese became the race leader but at the 75th lap he spun and Pironi became the leader. Didier was going slower and slower then Andrea de Cesaris took the lead but he also was out of fuel. At that time Patrese was back to the track and became the race leader again, he stayed at this position till cross the finish line. Riccardo
won his first Formula One race but when he crossed the finish line he
didn't know it. He only had notice about his win a few time later.
Pironi finished in the second place and de Cesaris finished in the third
position.
