Bullets Test

I have the necessity to verify which expansive bullet, to use in my rifle caliber 416 Rigby for hard skin game(buffalo..) and spitzer ligth bullet fot soft skin game (antelope..).

The test regards the expansion of the balls selected on a hard material.

Test:

I have tested two bullets for thick skin game. I have used a hard ballistic media (dry phone books). The caliber is 416 Rigby custom rifle with 24 inch barrel, speed is approx 2400 fps. Distance from media 10 meters. Inclination 20 degrees

I have tested the following bullets:

  1. CBS Degol 400 grains SP
  2. Swift A-Frame 400 grains SP

The Barnes show the best weight retention but.

The Degol show the best expansion.

I have also tested the 270 grains bullets for soft skin game. I have used a hard ballistic media. The caliber is 416 Rigby custom rifle with 24 inch barrel, speed is approx 2900 fps. Distance from media 10 meters. Inclination 20 degrees

I have tested the following bullets:

  1. CBS Degol 270 grains Spitzer

The test show a frangible bullet on hard media; the penetration is not too bad.

Retained Weight 151,5 grains % retained 37,87%
