Bard Audio

Sonnoteer is a British manufacturer of audio equipment and they brought a modest rig with them to demonstrate their new Bard Audio system for transmitting uncompressed digital audio signals. The BardOne transmitter is about the size of a USB computer memory stick and contains programming to send signals from your Mac or PC, a CD or MP3 player, to amplifiers or stereo systems within a range of 20-40 meters. The BardOne receiver that looks like a flying saucer about the size of a Dinky Toy attaches to your amplifier or stereo system with a pair of interconnects. The Bardthree is a universal power supply that plugs into the wall socket (with various worldly snap-in adapters), a receiver (of the digital signals sent by the BardOne) and a digital amplifier for powering your remote loudspeakers — all rolled into one tiny package. If this sounds like a toy to you, imagine, a few years hence, a similar version manufactured by someone like Jeff Rowland and costing many thousands of dollars. In the photo, to the far right of the laptop is the round BardOne receiver. The box to the immediate right of the laptop is the Bardthree. And the BardOne transmitter rests on top of the Bardthree. The BardOne sender and receiver sell for $599 and the same package with the Bardthree is $1295. Very interesting. Now hook this up to your digital server with your 2000 LP record collection stored in it, transmit to your wireless headphones, and go mow the lawn!

Sonneteer fast forward ahead of the rest of the high end society with their new high quality Bard wireless audio system. The high end British brand have spent the better part of the last four years looking into the future of high end audio and the Bardone , shown here connected to a Sonneteer Orton and Byron system, is the first product of the project to see the light of day and will be on show at CES Las Vegas this January.
Their claim is 'Play music from your mp3 player, computer, radio,or CD player and transmit wire free in high end quality digital to every room in your home.'
The new BardUSB, launched at CES is a device that looks not a lot unlike a USB memory stick which plugs directly in to a PC or MAC and transmits music digitally and uncompressed all around the house. All you need is a Bardone receiver connected to your audio system or the New hand sized Bardthree digital amp and receiver plugged into a pair of speakers and you can pick up high end audio all over your house.
Bard audio is the new brand name under the wing of Sonneteer and is in keeping with Sonneteer's poetic roots. Well, erm, namewise anyway!

Sonneteer, a UK-based home entertainment appliances major, is now focusing on high-end home audio streaming products. The new product line which has come out from its stable is Bard series of wireless streaming devices, BardOne set of transmitter and receiver, BardUSB transmitter, and BardThree receiver with an integrated 25W RMS amplifier. The major calling card of these products is that they are littered with the facility of transmitting uncompressed audio. Equally impressive is the feature of using full wireless bandwidth and send up to 8 channels of stereo.

In operational terms, BardOne consists of two devices --- Tx, transmitter and Rx, receiver. Transmitter is plugged into any audio source like PC and iPod which have a stereo output and the wave is transferred to the Rx in an uncompressed form. Rx, in turn, is plugged with the amplifier or AV receiver. BardUSB, more or less, is similar to BardOne Tx and is plugged into USB 1.1 port and in the computer, it acts as a sound card. The latest versions of BardUSB are also capable of supporting SPDIF and can Dolby Digital and DTS surround sounds. BardThree is a more modified version in the sense that it inherently features a 25W RMS amplifier and a user can get it directly connected with his speakers. These systems which can simultaneously stream up 8 channels are certainly best suited for multi-zone audio setups.

From a pricing point of view, Sonneteer’s strategy is not all that consumer friendly and you need to shell out a substantial sum to buy them. For instance, the BardOne set is available in the price range of $825, BardUSB with BardOne Rx at $599, and BardThree with a BardUSB at $700. So a prospective buyer is bound to consider other options even as Sonneteer is promising a new home entertainment experience with these products. Cable is still much cheaper.

Nel caso di una sorgente analogica:
How does it work?
Plug the BardOne Tx into the music source be it a CD player, a radio or PC via phono leads.
Plug the BardOne Rx into an amplifier or active speaker system within range of the transmitter.
Set both the Tx and Rx modules to the same transmit channel (up to 8 stereo to choose from).
Make sure everything is switched on.
