“The TEAC noise reduction units may be used with any good quality tape deck, open reel or cassette. Their prime purpose is the elimination of inherent tape and recorder noise and hiss while recording magnetic tapes. Noise free recording is thus possible from a variety of sources such as FM broadcasts, discs or when copying from another tape deck. Due to the expansion/compression principles employed in this process the Noise Reduction Unit should be in use for both recording and playback functions. Once a tape has been Dolby encoded (recorded through the Dolby circuitry) it should be reproduced through the Dolby circuitry in order to enjoy optimum results. This should not be construed to mean that Dolby encoded tapes cannot be played on a non-Dolby unit. They can, however some tone compensation will be required as Dolby encoded tapes played back on a conventional recorder will have a somewhat brighter than normal sound.” (from the original TEAC brochure)
"L'unità TEAC per la riduzione del rumore può essere utilizzata con qualunque registratore a nastro o cassette di buona qualità.L'obbiettivo principale è l'eliminazione del rumore e del sibilo intrinseco alla registrazione magnetica. Una registrazione priva di rumore sarà quindi possibile da svariate fonti quali le stazioni radio FM e i dischi o nella duplicazione da un altro nastro. Grazie ai principi di espansione/compressione impiegati in tale procedimento, l'unità può essere utilizzata sia per la registrazione che per la riproduzione.Una volta che il nastro è stato codificato con il Dolby (registrandolo attraverso i circuiti del Dolby) esso dovrà essere riprodotto mediante gli stessi circuiti Dolby per poter ottenere risultati ottimali. Ciò non deve essere interpretato nel senso che un nastro registrato con il Dolby non potrà essere riprodotto in un apparecchio privo di Dolby. Essi possono essere utilizzati su un registratore convenzionale aggiungendovi una certa compensazione di tono, giacchè i nastri codificati con il Dolby presentano un suono alquanto più brillante rispetto a quelli tradizionali.
