Invitation to Submit
Paper to 'Snapshots: The Specialist Schools Trust
Journal of Innovation in Education'
Deadline for Papers: 15 July 2003
12 May 2003
Dear Education
Colleague,
I am delighted to announce that the Specialist
Schools Trust, in the United Kingdom, is to launch
a new quarterly professional journal. This will be
a paper-based journal.
'Snapshots: The Specialist Schools Trust Journal
of Innovation in Education' is to specifically
focus on new ideas, programs, policies and
practices being trialed or fully implemented in
schools (of all levels/types).
Articles in 'Snapshots' will describe and discuss
innovations in schools all around the world. As
such, the journal represents an outstanding
opportunity for schools to showcase the work of
their staff and to share practical ideas on what
works best to improve student outcomes.
Through the journal, schools and educators will be
encouraged to develop national and international
networks, so that school-based research,
experimentation with new ideas, the considered
abandonment of old practices, and best practice
can be shared more widely.
Of course, launching a 32-page international
journal with this ambitious aim is a huge
challenge. Its success will depend on an
enthusiastic team of contributors and the strong
practical support of the international education
community.
I am therefore asking if you, a member of staff,
or a team of staff in your school, would be able
to assist by contributing a paper to the journal
for possible publication. The focus would be on
innovations that have been implemented in the past
two or three years, or are planned for
implementation in the near future.
The length of the paper could range from 700-2,100
words. It should contain some information about
your school (location, brief history, demographics,
special challenges and any other relevant details),
some background to the implementation or trial of
the innovation (why it was considered necessary,
when it took place if it has already been
implemented or when it is scheduled to take place)
and a description and discussion about how it has
worked out in practice (strengths and successes,
risks, weaknesses, perceived future modifications,
possible abandonment). It would also be very
useful if you were able to link the innovation to
student outcomes (measured and/or intangible), if
possible. Photos of your school, especially those
that illustrate the innovation being described,
would be a wonderful bonus and should be emailed
separately as attached JPEG files.
The first deadline for the journal is 15 July
2003. Papers should be emailed to me as a plain
email message or as an attached Word file. Please
keep formatting to an absolute minimum and use
tables and graphics sparingly. My email address is:
brydon@bigpond.net.au
Please let me know as soon as possible if you are
able to contribute. Your assistance with this
exciting international project would be greatly
appreciated. Of course, authors of published
papers will be sent a complimentary copy of the
issue in which their paper appeared.
Best wishes,
Debra J. Brydon
