Compositions by the so-called minor authors form one of the sectors of the cultivated music of the Eighteenth century in Piedmont still little investigated. These composers played roles which were not minor in the Piedmontese music panorama of the XIX-XX centuries, their compositions being published and played in the major theatres and concert halls all over Northern Italy, but soon forgotten after the authors death. Apart from waltzes, mazurkas, and Monferrinas, fashionable dances in the Eighteenth century, more classic works were written, such as string quartets or chamber romances. Drawing from this repertoire, this band wants to re-propose the compositions transcribed for the most classic among the classic kinds of ensemble: the string quartet, and sometimes quintet with doublebass. Alongside with this reperoire, a wealth of folk songs in Piedmontese was handed down to us first by Costantino Nigra and eventually by Leone Sinigaglia. Quartetto Tamborini is born from an idea by Bruno Raiteri, violinist of Ciapa Rusa, a well-known band of the Piedmontese folk music.
