What are its origins ?
The name Pesaro is probably derived from the former name
of the Foglia River, which was “Pisaurus”. The city’s origins go back to
ancient history as people have occupied this region since the 9th
century BC.
What is it like ?
With four kilometres of golden sandy beaches offering
water sports and beach fun, it is not surprising that Pesaro is an
important tourist centre. Away from the beach through the charming
streets there are plenty of museums, theatres and shopping areas . Up into the surrounding hills there is still
more to discover – villas, castles and villages tucked away in the vast
pine forests.
As a business centre and home to many companies Pesaro
has another side to it as a busy urban area.
Culturally Pesaro is very rich. The historic centre is
complemented by museums
and galleries hosting varied exhibitions including a rich collection of
ceramic art.
The city’s most famous son is the composer, Rossini and
you can find his name everywhere – from the small museum celebrating his
birthplace to the famous music school, the Conservatory. |
