01/2006: I just acquired a DuMont (or Du Mont ...) MUSEAL 274/A oscilloscope / oscillograph (1946 !). It requires a ground-up restoration (and transformers replacement...), but I think it is worth any effort; DuMont oscilloscopes are 'common', but this model is really rare, and of historical interest. It is present in various museums throughout the world (more on its history later)...

After a lot of waiting, tracking and worrying this oscillograph arrived in Turin, from the southern regions via Rome.
Postal service in Italy is costly and slow, sometimes packages are not delivered, and they often arrive like beaten... everything in Italy in these days seems so approximate, and every time you feel a little more abused... and angry.

Sadly, it suffered damages during the shipping, as feared and half-expected.
Due to rough handling (though it has been double boxed!) the CRT detached from its bakelite base:

The wirings seem OK; I am not sure about the vacuum inside the tube, but I will double check the seal as soon as I will make up my mind about how to handle this mess (right now I am trying not to move anything too much, and arranging a full face and body shield before working on this 'unimploded' bomb...). The seal is not easy to inspect right now; I found some glass brittle inside the 'scope case; I don't know if it came from the tube end, and I hope nothing unrecoverable happened...
Stay tuned!
