We see all sorts of unintentional violence the Iron Giant has caused simply due to his size (broken trees, fences, etc...) as well as his hunger for metal (half-bitten cars, he also tears down part of a power station)

One night Hogarth discovers their TV antenna is missing and follows the Iron Giant's trail to the power plant, where he saves the robot from electrocution after it chomps on some live wires
And here is a family movie with a message: a Cold War parable in which the Iron Giant learns from a little boy that he is not doomed to be a weapon because 'you are what you choose to be.' The movie is set in the 1950s because that's the decade when science fiction seemed most preoccupied with nuclear holocaust and invaders from outer space
And the villain is a Cold Warrior named Kent Mansley (voice by ), a G-man who of course sees the Iron Giant as a subversive plot and wants to blast it to pieces

Why does every cartoon mom have to look like Sally Fields? And why don't any of these cartoon kids ever have dads? 'The Iron Giant' is adapted from 'The Iron Man, ' a tale British poet originally created for his children to explain the death of their mother
If all this seems a little too intense for small fry, it should also be mentioned that 'The Iron Giant' always manages to remain very much a movie about a little boy and one wildly oversize toy

2.0 My first review for THE IRON GIANT was of an incomplete movie, some of the animation was still in pencil form and it had no soundtrack
He called me up, almost a year ago to ask me if I would remove early images of THE IRON GIANT from AICN, so that the character could be introduced in the course of the film
My point is, a movie is as long as it needs to be, and THE IRON GIANT is perfect as is
I see a confused living being, a robot maybe, but the Iron Giant is living
The creators give voice to the Iron Giant in a Ludo-styled baritone
By the way, if it seems like this week Im talking a lot about THE IRON GIANT..

I mean, Great Scott! A Red CAPAlert light for a kid's show!? All I can say is the very same numeric analysis model used on movies in 1995/96 was used on *Iron Giant*
This movie is a perfect example of the ratings game and fortifies the findings of Pastor Wayne Wilson: that the MPAA rating system is like the willow tree, not the oak; that it 'bends with the winds of our culture.' And *Iron Giant* corroborates the invasive claim of Amy Pascal, president of Columbia Pictures: 'Kids are so much hipper and more sophisticated than they used to be that younger kids want to see stuff that has a little edge to it.' Each example of aberrant behavior may seem minor, but the number of them made the numeric magnitude (the cell height for the statisticians) of the Impudence/Hate cell equivalent to some of the lesser R-rated movies of 1995/96
